The US Department of Transportation want the American cars “talk” with each other to avoid accidents, and want that to happen soon. The Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that a legislation requiring new car possessing the V2V technology (English vehicle-to-vehicle ) will be carried forward.
In a speech in Silicon Valley, the government official said is facilitating the means for this to occur and the program starts. For example, it is working with the FCC (which stands for The Federal Communications Commission ) to ensure that the 5.9GHz spectrum is properly tested and ready for use when this technology eventually reach consumers in the coming decades. Some tests were already some time in studies to determine whether this frequency can be used without interference with other Wi-Fi devices.
The idea behind the V2V is somewhat simple. The cars constantly remain in communication with each other , in the transit through the spectrum. This way they would be able to send alerts to drivers to prevent accidents before they happen. It is likely that this feature is really useful in situations of distractions such as passing red lights or intersections without looking sideways, for example, which would prevent some tragedies.
Foxx expects this technology, combined with autonomous vehicles , also help reduce the number of accidents involving this type of car.
