Lots of information and relaxation. So was the Information Day organized by the Center for Informatics of the Upper Valley (NIAVI), the Business Association of the South River (ACIRS), on Thursday, Oct. 16. The lecture of Mark Piangers on innovation, brought to the public more than the technological trends, but also a global view of the conquest of the public by the big brands.

We want to use our time without interference, because when we want information about products and services, we researched, “said Piangers to emphasize the new consumer profile. Passionate about technology, communicator presented innovations announced at the SXSW Festival, the biggest festival of the technological world.

Irreverence also marked the lecture. After all, with very good humor, Piangers highlighted the importance that companies are in sync with your audience through what he most wants today: content and relevance.

The Information Day was part of the National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT) held by SEBRAE across the country, between 13 and 16 October. The goal was to share knowledge and stimulate new innovation practices. And that’s what motivated the participants to seek more data and assessing the notification of their companies.

Samsung creates technology that multiplies the current 5 speed … – Globo.com

Samsung is ready to launch a new category of Wi-Fi, 802.11ad standard, from 2015 Thanks to a technology that makes the sign able to bypass physical barriers and eliminate interference, the Korean manufacturer promises embed modems Wi-Fi on their devices at speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps. The number is five times greater than that achieved by current technology.

Brazil has slower connection that Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, says study

The speed allowed by the technology would be able to transfer movies from 1 GB in just three seconds between devices connected to the same network. Additionally, the novelty also enables high quality streaming between a media center and a connected TV.

“Unlike the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz existing technologies, Wi-standard 60 GHz 802.11ad Fi Samsung retains top speed, eliminating the interference of the same channel, regardless of the number of devices that use the network, “said the official statement from the company.

The feat is performed by a special set of antennas that are ignorant obstacles such as walls and doors to keep the signal active high speed. The same is done with a network where there are multiple computers connected. While current high-speed signals tend to lose quality as they are shared in the same channels, the new technology of Samsung intends to keep everything unchanged at 60 GHz.

How to use 4G Internet? Comment on the TechTudo Forum.

Samsung intends to integrate its new Wi-Fi technology in several products, including audiovisual devices, medical and telecommunications equipment. But first, the band of 60 GHz need to be licensed for commercial use, which should only occur in the United States, Europe and parts of Asia in 2015 not yet forecast for Brazil.

Surveillance technology war creates controversy on … – BBC Brazil

Airplane with cameras monitoring streets in real time

An American company has developed a way to monitor entire neighborhoods using a technology developed originally for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But, while the police welcomes the prospect of gaining access to technology, she was criticized for being seen as a threat to the privacy of citizens.

The system works through a drone that records what is happening in soil in an area 40 miles in diameter.

The aircraft is equipped with 12 high-resolution cameras, which form a kind of “Google Earth” in real time.

“The resolution is not high enough to show who the person is, they appear as a gray pixel on the screen, “says Ross McNutt, retired Air Force veteran and president of the company that developed the system, the PSS (Persistent Surveillance Systems).

Credit: BBC
Twelve high resolution cameras are on the aircraft

But this pixel is enough for people’s movements to be monitored accurately while the plane is in the air -. for up to six hours

The idea is to fly over areas with high crime rates . In early 2012, the aircraft monitored the city of Compton, California, for nine days. Recorded murder, robbery and several other crimes.

When comparing the recordings with the testimony of witnesses, analysts and the police were able to determine the time when the crimes were committed.

This form, could find out where the suspects were before and after the time of the crime, says McNutt.

During testing in Ohio, California and Mexico, PSS witnessed 34 murders.

Threat to Democracy

The cameras PSS, however, not only see murders and criminals. . They record the daily activity streets and backyards

Cr & # xE9; said, BBC
During testing, cameras captured 34 murders

Although the firm insist that the resolution of the cameras is low, many Americans see the system as a threat to individual liberties

“The system not only violates people’s privacy; monitor movements an entire community is a threat to democracy, “said Jennifer Lynch, attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

The residents of Compton, for example, were not told when they tested the system.

“It’s things like this and the secret monitoring of Muslim students by police in New York in 2012 that generate distrust of the police,” says Lynch.

The company says it follows a “strong privacy policy” and only monitors people after a crime or criminal investigations communications. . Says he can also know exactly which images were observed by their analysts

Credit: BBC
Although not distinguish between a person’s face, the system generates privacy concerns

In places like Compton, where a large share of the population is black, there is concern about the possibility of turning minorities target surveillance.

There is also the fear of that the system can lead people to stop doing things they do not want others to know, even if not illegal. This includes, for example, go to a gay bar, or religious institutions have more than one relationship.

“police surveillance can affect the freedom of expression and, thus, the democratic and constitutional right of the people is threatened, “adds Lynch.

The president of the firm says it is aware of these issues and sought the American Civil Liberties Union, an NGO that defends individual liberties, to discuss the topic.

Meanwhile, no American state has adopted the technology in a systematic way.

Mobile technology can be the key to containing Ebola in Africa – Pplware

“contact tracing” became a familiar term, as that the world learns more about the Ebola crisis and how to contain this virus still without a cure.

It was through this method, the contact tracing, the authorities managed to reach the Liberian, Thomas Eric Duncan and hence managed to inform him that he and his team had been exposed to the Ebola virus, which somehow came into contact with him. Duncan died in a hospital in Dallas, Texas, on October 8.

This means that there is an urgency to use the technology to reach people without coming into direct contact with them … mobile technology can be the key to contain Ebola in Africa.

 ebola_protect

The infectious disease specialist Dr. Joel Selanikio says that time is of the essence in getting communication for people in crisis and the crisis of Ebola.

Collection of mobile data

The company Dr. Joel Selanikio, MAGPI, uses a mobile data collection system and a messaging tool that streamlines vital information for people in Africa and other parts of the software world, in crisis situations.

“What MAGPI does is recognize that in the context of global health, for example, during this outbreak of Ebola, there is a lot of information that needs to be collected,” Selanikio said.

“I’m sure that at this point, listeners and viewers have heard of contact tracing, something I think very few Americans knew before the event in Dallas. The only thing that should have happened in Dallas in addition to treating the poor man with Ebola, (referring to Thomas Eric Duncan, who passed away), was tracking everyone who may have come into contact with it, “explained the expert in infectious diseases.

This expert further explained that by tracking these people, the CDC developed a database that collects information and the rich history of each people detailing everything that might be useful, but should also have the functionality to monitor some changes that may occur over time.

“And, unfortunately, in most cases, and I’m sure that in almost all cases, in West Africa, currently, these activities the same type of contacts and even other types of data collections are made on paper, “said Selanikio.

” Now you can imagine with the unbelievable time of the current situation we have with Ebola, spending three days to write all this information in a computer is not enough. “

Response to Ebola and mobile phones

So, a response that could result passes the use of mobile phones. The collection of data is much faster, the spread of information more expeditiously and contagion can be quickly caught.

In terms of use, according Selanikio, the entire population of West Africa, has a cell phone and probably there are cities with 100% using a mobile phone. Inside, there’s probably a rate of 40 or 50% of mobile phone use, but all have way to have access to one, the expert explained.

So the key to containing Ebola may actually be in use of mobile devices, track contacts, quickly disseminate information and propagate data rather than take eons to collect, compile writing in databases on the computers. The speed of contagion requires fast and efficient methods, is where technology can make a difference.

Via Voice of Africa

The disease first appeared in 1976 in Sudan and Congo today, a village near the Ebola River, hence its name.

Semibreve, the festival that combines music and technology – SUN Newspapers

A show of Polish artist Anna Zaradny pointed out last night, the start of this year’s Semibreve, the festival of electronic music and digital art taking place in Braga, until Sunday.

Over the next three days will go through stages of Circus Theater and GNRation some of the biggest names of this genre today, including Roll The Dice, Plaid, Ryoichi Kurokawa, sensate Focus, Thomas Ankersmit and Demdike Stare.

Besides music, programming Semibreve still displays a number of installations and exhibitions, partly resulting from projects masters of Catholic universities and Minho, and that the patents are former barracks of the GNR, now converted into a cultural center with the name of GNRation.

The space, there goes two years trying to position itself as a cultural and creative epicenter of Braga, was the venue of the show opening, the position of the Polish Anna Zaradny, who introduces himself as “visual and sound artist, composer, improviser “and whose performances combine music, video, photography, dance and objects

For 50 minutes Zaradny -. visiting Portugal for the first time – filled the room” Black Box “, the GNRation with your sounds generated from the laptop. The music that somebody in the audience said it reminded him “a scene from a science fiction horror movie”, managed to grab the place a public split between the parties (almost all repeat these wanderings of Semibreve) and that there were only in passing from one to another showroom, who stand in the back of the space.

Among those who occupied seats – which sold out – those who have chosen to sit on the floor and those who preferred manter- his feet, and measured two-thirds of the room were filled. Maybe about 180 people on a weekday in the rainy weather did not invite large outputs (only yesterday, the storm had flooded the tunnels of the city, submerging cars and throwing traffic chaos in Braga).

The receptivity of the audience liked the artist who, at the end of the performance, in conversation with the SOL stressed that “there is a market for this kind of music”, but admitted that it is “a very special audience that appreciates this aesthetic and have a longer experience in this type of art. “

The Semibreve will have the fourth edition and, besides music, still intends to publicize some of the scientific production in the field of digital arts produced by the University of Minho . Example is the installation “Meet the Frumbles”, where three robotic dolls felt talk among themselves and interact with the audience. Are accompanied by a musical performance – last night was a bass -. Going and stopping the show with a massive repertoire of humorous comments, good northern way

” We have chosen to use more spicy expressions, because we want the puppets react the same way we do when we talk in coffee, “explains Luis Fraga, a systems engineer who has worked at Microsoft and created the Frumbles together with graphic designer António Coelho. Everything is made using technology that we find, for example, in games consoles in our homes.

It is equipped with a “kinect camera, which are the eyes of the system” and allow the isolation between the audience watching the show, a person with whom the dolls talk and interact. And then there is the brain “which is a computer that controls the animatronics of creatures.” The idea, says António Coelho, is to make a sort of back to basics: “the screen no longer surprises anyone else, then we need something more tangible with which people create relationships. For example, people like the Angry Birds game but need to have the physical dummy. “

The Festival continues tonight, already with the program of concerts. In the Main Hall of the Theatro Circo act Gwyer Karen and Maria Monica, at 21.30, and Roll the Dice at midnight, while the small auditorium gets indulged inC around 22h45. The ticket prices vary between 25 and 9 euros and can be purchased at the box office Circus Theater.

Technology brings childhood friends – NE10

technology reduced the size of computers and phones, took man to the moon and helped to shorten the distance between continents. The technology generates benefits and controversies. Serves to create weapons of war, improve household tasks and save lives. Technology can be good and bad. One of its best features, among many possible, is when the service is affectivity. The technology, the intangible essence, not only materializes in rockets, supersonic airplanes or doses of vaccines revolutionary. She also reflected in lengthy hugs from those who used it to kill the longing for a good time.

It is thanks to technology that groups of friends, whose contact was lost in time and space, are resuming the relationship . Are people over 50 or 60 who reunited college friends or neighbors of decades ago. Adults are rediscovering childhood when faced with school friends on social networks. There are many examples of friendships reset via computers and mobile phones. One such group of friends is made up of men and women between 30 and 35 years, all former students of the college Nobrega, educational institution that today only exists gloriously in remembrance of those who studied there.

It all started when a nurse Thacyana Gomes and businessman José Henrique Nogueira, both 34, began adding the childhood peers on Facebook. The discussion on social networks evolved to create a group on Whatsapp. Gradually, names and numbers were reminded added. “Spending 20 years without contact with someone and to rediscover that person feel that the atmosphere of friendship is the same, despite the ideals and professions are different, is something magical,” says the creator of the group.

Each cell has become a time machine, used according to the free time each. Some have recognized the fellow promptly. Others took to realize that the strange number on the phone display had a friend behind child or adolescent adventures. Stories, jokes and nicknames emerged in some dusty corner of the mind and adults could go back to being children. Those boys and girls of the 80s, who lost contact “because that’s life”, were discovered parents, lawyers, journalists, businessmen, nurses, engineers, Veterinary and many other professions so far from ever dreamed that one day be .

At 34 years old, married for seven years and mother of two boys, Erika Samico wanted to be a pediatrician. Turned veterinarian with master’s and doctorate in food safety. With its particular time machine, found friends who had no more news and could revisit childhood. “I smell that time, the courtyard, the rooms, the taste of the snack canteen. The maximum being relive a little piece of my life, “he says.

One of the friends of the school who could rediscover Erika was André Barros. The boy who wanted to be a judge graduated in law, turned state’s attorney, married and became the father of a girl. “I was happy with very little and try to appreciate my daughter in the building of sincere relationships since childhood. Relive all this is a jump in the past, without a parachute. I’m taking my daughter to know that Daddy’s friends, when I was her age. She will realize that friendships can be forever and few things in life are forever, “he says.

No barriers to friendship

It does not seem that Recife, Philadelphia (USA), São Paulo, Delmiro Gouveia (AL) and Petrolina and Ouricuri, both in Pernambuco backlands are miles away from each other. It is these cities that the members of the group named Friends of the Class D Nobrega use the newest technology to revive the old infancy and talk as if they were all together in the playground. Not all belonged to the same class during school life, but have in common the love for the former Jesuit college, now a high school under the administration of state government.

The group conversations are nostalgic and chaotic, with all talking at once, or memories evoked at different times due to the time zone. Philadelphia, writes Thiago Port, 34, who studied at the Garden II Nobrega to finish high school and today is a multinational financial manager. “I never imagined that such a reunion was possible and not expect it to be so good. Was a positive surprise, “he says.

Already architect Thais Rubens, 33, faced the virtual reunion with childhood peers afraid because I think maybe the only thing they had in common were the memories. It did not take to feel at ease. “What am started on the patio and in the halls of the college. When everyone started talking in the group, the memories returned with the smell, color and sound, “he says.

The namesakes Sergio Artoni, Physical Education teacher, and Sérgio Lopes, engineer, were responsible for the talks leave the virtual environment. Not everyone was able to go to the meetings, but who could participate online way. Thus was formed a wheel chat that mixed barbecue, beer, bits, politics, football, photos, mobile internet and many memories. The history professor Flavio Moraes was not content with the distance and out of Alagoas to see friends at the last meeting of the class. “Relive those moments of such immense sincerity and innocence was one of the best things” he says.

The friends now want to hold a larger gathering at the end of the year, with the participation of all members of the virtual group . The goal is to expand the school family with the inclusion of husbands, wives, sons to form an even greater affective network

When the unit flew Magazine Beach Park, at the Cambridge area, a hawk made sure he knew he was not happy with that violation of airspace. And attacked the drone.

With a sharp blow, the bird launched quadricóptero a wild tumble. The ‘battle’ aerial ended without injury to the bird, and the drone was not damaged.

The NGO, which was born in January 2013, focuses primarily on promoting its Time Code, which introduces students to programming through a simple tutorial an hour. The hope of the nonprofit organization is achieving schools that do not offer courses in Computer Science – and 90 percent of schools do not offer, according to them – thus giving children their first exposure to encoding, which is becoming increasingly more differential in the curricula for those hires.

The campaign has global reach and the project is totally free for anyone who wants to learn. The Time Code also want to divide its focus equally between boys and girls, potentially reducing gender disparities have become increasingly evident in the reports released by major technology companies.

After the revelation of demographic data from large technology companies in Silicon Valley, like Google, these companies have found something that was already suspected of many: gender inequality is alarming

.

For this, some of these companies, more specifically Facebook, Pinterest and Box are wanting to fix it. Just like Google has taken action to correct, the three companies announced on Wednesday (8), the creation of WEST, Women Entering and Staying on Tech (Women Entering and Staying in Technology, in Portuguese), a program the aim of encouraging women to pursue careers related to technology. The program will connect women who are at the technological branch with young people wishing to enter the industry. Within a year, mentors will support their orientandas individually.

“We believe that by working together and giving more direct support, protection and space for community development, we can create a program of individual guidance of great impact in helping women to build meaningful careers in technology,” says statement released by Facebook.

The program was announced just a few months after the release of the demographics of their employees. 85% of the Facebook posts were held by men. Already on Pinterest, the number was 79%. According to the creators of companhinhas WEST, “while the number of vacancies in the area is expected to reach 1.4 million in 2020, the US Census Bureau found that the participation of women in technology has actually decreased since the 1990s . Companies are looking for new ways to make women become interested in technical roles and remain in them to the extent that they are advancing in their careers, “added the statement.
