New meets the internet customer needs in which the demand for connectivity grows

Brasilia – A new technology developed in Brazil will enable accelerate internet connection. Applied in fiber optic networks, the component – a kind of chip – has a much smaller size than the existing and currently uses photonics technology, which uses light to transmit information elements

“We are developing a data transmission technology much more compact and lower power consumption,” said Julio Cesar de Oliveira, a researcher and president of BR Photonics, a company responsible for developing the mechanism. The company was established in March 2014 through a partnership between the Research and Development in Telecommunications Center (CPqD) and the US company GigOptix.

The company also received Fund resources for the Technological Development of Telecomunicaçõest (Funttel), administered by the Ministry of Communications. The fund has allocated about US $ 200 million to CPqD for research in communications. This investment has resulted in innovations that photonic chip.

Faster

The novelty meets the internet of customer needs in the world all at a time when the demand for connectivity continues to grow. Increasingly, people keep their files and information in the cloud – to access from anywhere – not more at home on the computer or other devices. Not to mention the applications used in smartphones and tablets, which also use the optical network.

The new technology also meets the desire of operators who seek smaller and smaller equipment, which spend less electricity and can be installed within the existing telecommunications central platforms. The technology produced by BR Photonics occupies a smaller area five times that currently used, enabling increased data density by including a greater number of components on the same platform.

The Company’s expectation is to achieve global market. According to the researcher, German and Israeli companies have been the key stakeholders in the Brazilian news. It is expected that the company’s revenues reaches approximately R $ 145 million in 2019, with a profit of approximately R $ 31 million.
