A company incubated at the University of Porto (UPTEC) Park of Science and Technology, has developed a new technology capable of detecting the first flames of a forest fire, allowing combat forces a ‘faster’ action.

“The new technology has a sensor that detects up to about 12 kilometers away, an increase in temperature and a change in the concentration of carbon dioxide in forest environment, sending an alert to ways to help,” said today Lusa responsible for developing the company’s business Flicks, author of the project, Marina Machado.

This project, still in pilot phase, provides information to the media for help on the exact location, intensity and spread of fire as well as the necessary means and paths best suited to get there soon “in the first minute.” “This way, firefighters can intervene more quickly and efficiently to combat the flames, thus avoiding the increased area burned way”, bailed.

Marina Machado explained that the warning given by this technology is before issued to command forces, confirmed by the sensor that is closest. “The technology is placed in 12 of 12 kilometers in existing forests, such as old forest homes, and in their absence are built new ones always above the canopy and with less environmental impact structures,” explained the official. And, he added, “the technology covers the equivalent of 40 football fields.”

The researcher stressed that the technology works 24 hours a day, through wind or solar energy. The research for the development of this pilot project began about two years and, after approval of the laboratory tests, waiting now be implemented in the market, requiring an investment of 50 000 euros, Marina Machado said. According to her, the motivation of the development of this project was related to the goal of fighting a “scourge” that each year affects the country.

“We believe that technology is a tool to support and more -valia forces for fighting fires. ” Marina Machado also stressed that technology gives indications on the growth of tree species in the forest.

The dean of the University of Porto (UP) Carlos Brito considered that this project “is no more” than materialization of knowledge generated within the colleges, creating “economic and social value.” “This technology is extremely beneficial to society because it saves lives and protects the forest,” he stressed also the director of UPTEC.

The UPTEC, in operation for seven years and cofinanced by 15.4 million euros by EU funds, currently hosts over 185 business projects and generated between 2200-2500 jobs, revealed the culprit. Companies approach the customers with the help of technology – R7

There are solutions for any business profile who wants to invest in technology

A major trend in all branches of business is the approach with the client. Companies that have a good communication with consumers can keep them satisfied and increase loyalty, and technology can be a good tool to achieve this goal.

Companies that go hand in hand with technology can take advantage of several benefits of this relationship. Currently, most people own a smartphone and use them to perform many different tasks, such as making purchases, researching prices and search for services. Companies should be prepared to deal with clients that are connected most of the time and require quickly and efficiently.

Things you did not know when he agreed to the terms of service of social networks

Frank Van Veenendaal, executive vice president of Salesforce, the company that provides Customer Relationship Management (CRM) services to other businesses, believes that technology should be the primary basis of any investment company.

 - The internet and technology are increasingly linked with the business world. People are more connected, as well as customers with companies and the products themselves within a company.

  Communication

Focus on technology is the most efficient way for entrepreneurs able to invest in both clients, as the employees themselves. When developing a service or product that is integrated with other existing within the company, you can provide a more consolidated and less likely to make mistakes and confusions care.

 - I only be able to give my client if I want to understand your needs and make predictions for the near future, anticipating needs that will arise in the coming months. This is possible to be done with technology on our side.

Both small companies and large companies can enjoy the benefits of technological resources. One startup, for example, can be closer to their customers, meet demand and build a clientele if they use technology as an ally in communication.

Haters: learn all about the enemies of the internet

This is the case of Control Motors, a company with less than two years of market that facilitates the sale of cars already used by companies. The founding partner Roberto Bottura account they wanted to unify the startup processor on a single platform, and sought solutions to this.

‘We were looking for new technologies that could solve our problem. We decided to invest in CRM, even being a small company. The results were excellent.

But small businesses should be aware: not all types of technology will work with businesses that are still in the process of consolidation in the market. Planning and concern for the usefulness of this action is necessary.

 - We design the project we wanted to, according to our need. Thus, we hired a service that would best fit in our pocket and be fully tapped by Control Motors.

Therefore, technology can be the best friend of any kind of business: either a small, family business, as a large company. Frank, Salesforce finally recommends that the technological resources go hand in hand with customers and employees.

 - When we deliver a product, it is not because we think it is a good idea, but because our consumers think it is a good idea. It’s this kind of thinking that an entrepreneur needs to have.

Technology in education – Canaltech

Classroom digital

By Luiz Gonzaga Bertelli *

The development of technology is an irreversible process and exists to facilitate the direction of modern life. How to think of a better world without medical advances without the discoveries of science, without advances in telecommunications? The technological revolution of the 21st century, related to the production of chips, nanotechnology and robotics, the company brought the wonders of the digital world, built into laptops, smatphones, tablets and other devices that make the head of generations Y and Z. Despite technological knowledge already available, education is still walking at a slow pace to absorb the possible benefits of high technology. There are few schools, especially the public network, using computers or interactive whiteboards to enhance the quality of teaching.

Because of this, it is not surprising that there is still a lot of prejudice against education courses distance learning (DL). Despite the evident growth in demand, many companies are wary of curricula of graduate applicants this way, especially in more technical courses such as engineering. According to experts, the rejection occurs in both large companies as the smaller. Have careers in management, especially in the area of administration, the courses are more accepted because they are not laboratories or field work necessary.

The DL takes students outside the major centers of the same quality of education they have the inhabitants of the metropolis. There is also the misconception that the courses are less demanding. Students who enroll thinking that you may have difficulty completing the course, which, in most cases, requires organization and discipline.

The CIEE, an organization with 50 years of experience in the integration of young people into the market work proposes the stage as an adequate way of working the practice of distance education students in companies and government agencies, allowing him to experience the chosen career and supplement their theoretical training. Also offers a range of free courses in distance education to facilitate the action of the trainees in selection processes and the performance of practical training available in the portal www.ciee.org.br. Education can not fight technology, but need to enjoy what she brings benefits for teaching and learning.

Time Tunnel: how technology was 20 years ago? – Canaltech

Why Writing in | 08.21.2014 at 14h08

Internet

Twenty years ago the technology of electronic and PCs was right at the beginning. iPhones and iPads may only exist in science fiction films, and the notion of cloud services with various embedded devices, no way. But 1994 was a glorious year: marked the emergence of internet as we know it. But ever wondered how things were at that time?

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of our beloved website, the Business Insider site has a collection of facts about the technology at that time.

Windows

We’ll start, of course, for Windows. In 1994, Microsoft’s system already dominated the market, but it was quite different from the animated tiles or colorful look of Windows 8 to Windows 2000 looks good compared to what we had back then:

First Windows

Tijolão

Have you heard the expression “tijolão” to refer to a great phone? Then check out the true:

Cellphone old

At this time the cell were still huge and heavy, and only served to make calls.

World Wide Web

That year, Tim Berners-Lee invented the internet as we know it and published the first web page:

First website This is a landmark , and the original document is available in the file CERN , the particle accelerator located in Europe, which is where the WWW was born. Check out this link.

NeXT PC used to create and host the page

While most were already using Windows, Steve Jobs had created the forerunner of the Mac OS: NeXT. The founder of Apple was ahead of NeXT Software, and Berners-Lee used a NeXT PC to create and host the first web page, you’ve seen just above.

PC that created the first p & # XE1; web gina

Microsoft page

Have you ever stopped to visit the Microsoft website? The first page of the company was very different from what we have today and helped you kill your curiosity:

The page is also a classic in March and is available on the company website at this address. The only drawback is that there is only the home page – all links point to the modern site of the company, but still worth the visit

.

Yahoo!

in 1994 was also the year of the birth of Yahoo, and the first page of the portal was simple, but already demonstrating the potential of the platform.

Yahoo

dial-up Internet and AOL

this time, the web was just beginning, but many people have used the internet via dialup and with the aid of providers like AOL (America Online). Was paid-per-minute and one had access to various services using the software provider.

 AOL

A dialup internet, torture of any user, continued for years, especially here in Brazil, but thank God the broadband is now within reach of almost everyone.

Install AOL dialer

Back in USA people installed the software to access the AOL service through diskettes or CDs that arrived through the post, it was not possible to download. And many times the diskettes arrived at your house without you even asking.

 AOL Dialer

Wait, floppy?

Well, at that time there were no memory cards, too least the “cloud” know that. The backups were made in the drives amazing 1:44 MB , where miraculously could fit several File – today, probably not a Word file fit

Doom

This was also the birth year of Doom, most famous shooter first-person world, and that even today makes success.

Doom

Donkey Kong

Who was not playing Doom was because I was playing Donkey Kong hit Nintendo and Mario precursor. And of course, the Game Boy.

Donkey Kong

Play Station 1

20 years ago came the first PlayStation, Sony’s video game which is now in its fourth generation, and that neither the manufacturer can explain why he sell both.

 PlayStation 1

cassette tapes (VHS)

At this time there was not yet the DVD, then you rented movies novels or recorded TV on cassettes. Collections of movies and series could then occupy entire cabinets.

VHS

Lessor

Faxing

When was the last time you sent a fax? Well, nowadays no one else uses this machine, except in very specific situations. Email is much more practical, but at the time the service was expensive and almost no one had. Then fax machines were super popular and efficient.

 Fax Machine

And all this has been evolving until we reach the current level:

iPad

The next advances must occur in the area of wearable technologies, such as smart watches and devices that measure various body signals, with smartphones storing a plethora of data about you. And of course, we will be increasingly connected. What will Internet of Things
