Netflix wants to use technology that cheapens the service – Digital Look

A job advertisement published on the homepage of Netflix indicates that the service is considering using the peer-to-peer (P2P) technology for streaming movies and series, which would reduce costs.

considering its 60 million subscribers, it is estimated that Netflix consume 1/3 of all US Internet traffic. This demand is costly to the company and, in addition, creates technical problems such as delays in transmission. However, the use of P2P could solve it.

In the announcement, the company is looking for a senior engineer specialized in software technology that allows each network computer to function as a server and client at the same time .

The P2P technology enables the transmission of video with better quality and lower prices, since the files do not need to be hosted on a single server. Thus, the company also equally compete with other legal and illegal similar services.
