Festival that mixes art and technology enchants visitors in San … – Globo.com

An international festival in São Paulo brings together electronic language and various art.

The invisible is in the air. They look up, down, have fun in a world that only they see.

A scale is the biggest success of the exhibition, a semester final work multimedia design students from a German university. They have designed, watercolor, landscape scenes, made an animation and put a model in three dimensions. When a person puts his glasses, enters this world.

“It’s a feeling, our inexplicable. Its very cool. It seems that you are traveling, you know? “, Amaze a visitor.

” There are some kites in the sky. Looks like you’re floating, it’s really cool, “says one child.

Another piece is a conversation between the past and the present. When the safe visitor on a rod and starts spinning around her, a picture of our past graduates and starts chasing us in the present. When the loose visitor, the image of the past, the past walks slowly arises and is incorporated in us, in the present. No one can get rid of the past.

“In this job, you’ll be able to see several works that today make an intersection between contemporary art and electronic art. For instance, red skirt that moves and more that other green work, which is creating an endless path, is a sculpture that reconstructs all the time in space, “says Ricardo Barreto, festival organizer.

It has cameras to compose music in the rhythm of eye blinks. It has little people in the virtual world fleeing when someone from the real world approaches. And one can mess with lights and sounds, play games in Greece and also watch over 100 animations.

An installation works like a symphony, begins slowly and gradually the 18,000 LED lights up multiply color and speed.

The common stones, virtual men. Apparently they are not there, but appear when we look on the computer screen. As if the stones had a memory who has passed by.

Memory is also the inspiration of another artist. She keeps the face of those who pass by the festival. And then presents these people to those who pass along Avenida Paulista.

Opinion: Innovation and Technology – SAPO Tek

By Francisco Jaime Quesado *

The focus on Innovation and Technology is an important step in the renewal of the dynamics of value creation in the Portuguese economy. In deep time of international crisis, with most sectors faced with lack of recovery prospects, boosting this project is key to the future, based on a new bet on the available talent. The Innovation and Technology, as an innovative base of integrated projects turn out to be an important test of the ability to find new solutions associated with the Knowledge and Innovation, creating conditions for a new bet for the future. Innovation and Technology – two challenges that are here to stay!

Different actors (Municipalities, Universities, Business Associations, etc.) play a central role in promoting innovative solutions for the Technology and Creativity. The example of the North, too focused on the dynamics of actors as the Serralves Foundation, House of Music, universities and other entities here to stay. Lack now the rest of the country. It is a movement of “basic clustering” of civil society, in a logic of “collective efficiency” in the region’s ability to assert capabilities in a more global logic comes up. The strategic objectives of enhancing dimension for the future in these projects are clearly a test sample to the effective capacity of the territories to “grab” the challenge of competitiveness of a structured and coherent manner.

The success of Innovation and Technology is important for the country’s future. It is a goal that is not realized merely by decree. It is essential that civil society Grab convinced shape this thing and make the creation of these “New Competitiveness platforms” true collective strategic investment for years to come. What is really at issue in all this is the assumption by the country of a real strategic plan to change the latest evolution model of development and to implement new projects for Innovation and Competitiveness across the country, establishing that way wealth and talents which otherwise tend to focus solely on the great metropolis.

Betting on Integrated Projects like these means so take seriously the commitment of a new development model. In this context, the question then arises – how it should be operationalized innovation and technology throughout the territory? They are known in this field several international experiences, ranging from the US known Italian model, through the consolidated organization model in recent years in Spain, through the Autonomous Regions. There are no universal solutions and must be careful in this regard the particular specificity of our country and the core competencies at its disposal in order to be able to invest in a suitable solution for the future.

The Role of Foreign Direct Investment of Innovation, in conjunction with universities and other competence centers, will be decisive in this area and the state will be up the ineluctable mission to regulate rigorously and strategic sense. But the secret key will be in local capacity to make a difference. The different actors (municipalities, universities, business associations) have to know how to develop a real “strategic pact” for the future of its territory. And the options will have to be clearly assumed. Therefore, it is necessary that the Innovation and Technology becomes a reality all over the country.

Computer vision and mobile technology help blind people “see” – Pplware

If the smartphones and tablets are increasingly an incredible processing power, it is equipped with sensors and software around us in intimate way as to capture all our physical and social activity, why not join a series more determined parameters and take the “vision” who do not see?

In this sense, computer scientists are developing a new adaptive mobile technology that could allow blind and visually impaired people could “see “via your smartphone or tablet.

pplware_projecto_computacional00

This research is being funded by Google Faculty Research Award, which allows experts in computer vision and learning equipment, Lincoln University, UK, may insert a smart vision system on a mobile device, helping in this way, people with vision problems to circulate independently ” out of doors. “

 pplware_projecto_computacional01

Based on preliminary work on assistive technologies, developed at the Center for Autonomous Systems in Lincoln, the team plans to use color and depth sensor technology in smartphones and tablets, as the project uses Tango Google that allows you to map any area where the system point in three-dimensional format with geographic and object recognition. Then the team will develop an interface to link all this information read by the user device and can use vibrations, beeps or up words using a speech synthesizer.

The project, led by Dr. Nicola Bellotto, an expert in mechanical and robotic perception man-centered, the Lincoln School of Computer Science said that there are already many available visuals, as pro example guide dogs, cameras and wearable sensors. But even though there are all these technologies, there is also the difficulty in creating a true formula of usability that has acceptance in the middle that needs it.

 pplware_projecto_computacional02

If people are able to use the technology incorporated in devices such as smartphones, you do not need to use extra equipment, it would make them feel more self-conscious. Besides all this, there are applications for smartphones are able to recognize objects or convert voice where geographically is the device. But still do not take full advantage of these sensors are in the pocket of each of us, at least truly useful way.

So the aim of this project is to create a system that meets all these existing technologies and can simplify the process of such an order that usability is huge and everything combined makes the lives of those who have much more autonomous visual difficulties, simply by taking advantage of a gadget that for many only serves to make and receive calls.

This research team will work with the sponsorship of Google and Google will collaborate with experts throughout the project ‘Active Vision with human-in-the-Loop for the Visually Impaired’.

In the shadow of Technology – Journal SUN

Electronic Baby Hammocks transformed into works of art, display boxes radiographs, music and dance from around the world compiled a frantic video, a TV screen in operation but partially painted. Technology and a critical view of today are in every corner of ‘Under the Clouds: Paranoia of the Digital Sublime’., Exhibition at the Serralves Museum in Oporto, until 20 September

The show , curated by João Ribas, deputy director of the museum, it assumes that the postwar world lives under a double shadow: a mushroom-shaped cloud of the atomic bomb and the cloud of information networks. Interestingly, the second was a corollary of the first: in case of nuclear attack, it was necessary to maintain a communications infrastructure that resisted through a network of digital connections. Thus was born what we now know as the internet.

“The exhibition is not chronological, but each room introduces several themes and strands. There is an image saturation and content of an almost rhetorical way is to strengthen the contemporary life experience. We are in a room and still hear what is going on in the former, a cacophony that also has to do with the boundary between public and private space, “explains the SOL João Ribas, 36, who came to Serralves in January 2014, after an award-winning course in the United States, particularly in the Visual Arts Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The journey through this exhibition starts literally on the Silver Cloud Andy Warhol and several other big names represented such as Joseph Beuys, Guy Debord, Yves Klein and Christopher Wool. The oldest work dates from 1957, but there are a lot of very recent pieces by young artists like Portuguese Pedro Henriques. In fact, the presence of national artists is significant. “The Portuguese artists have much to say on these topics. My curiosity has no geographical boundaries, but part of our mission is to provide an international context to the Portuguese art and put their production in an international context “, explains Ribas.

Facebook Diversity Report and Google showed insignificant changes compared to last year

Facebook and other technology companies are not changing fast enough percentage of its diversity of scenery in headcount, which It has become a concern for civil rights activists.

Black Staff, for example, represent 2% of Facebook’s workforce by 31 May this year, according to a diversity report revealed by the company itself in this Thursday, June 25th. A context that has not changed compared to last year, which also showed 2%.

Hispanic descent Professionals correspond previously 4% of employees, while people from two or more ethnic groups correspond to 3%.

The percentage of Asians of staff increased from 34% to 36%.

Another technology giant, Google, said this month that are increasing their hiring of minority groups.

The leader in civil rights has been required considerable success that technology companies publish diversity reports. More than 25 companies released their data. Jackson now wants the companies to submit tangible goals and report back on their success in meeting them. He argues that women and minorities still represent underserved markets, underutilized talents and untapped capital for companies.

On Thursday, Jackson said in a statement that the numbers 2015 Google, eBay and Facebook clearly demonstrate it is necessary to articulate change, since they are virtually identical to 2014.

On Thursday, the Global Head of Diversity of Facebook, Maxine Williams wrote in a post that the company had adopted an approach similar to the Rooney rule in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States, which encourages “recruiters to look more and more intelligently to talent diversity and ensures that hiring managers are exposed to a variety of different candidates during the interview process.”

The training program University Facebook invites college freshmen, usually under-represented groups, with exceptional talent and interest in computer science, to work in teams with Facebook mentors during the summer so that they can learn the skills the company is looking for, Williams he said.

First PSV shirts made by Umbro blend tradition and … – ball retriever Guide

The Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven presented their new shirts for the season 2015-2016, the first created by Umbro after the club close contract with the brand and end a 20-year partnership with Nike. And as is almost inevitable when speaking of Umbro, the new models stand out elegance, PSV mixing tradition with timely innovations

& gt.; PSV wins special shirt farewell after 20 years with Nike

The new shirt holder keeps the absolutely traditional look of PSV with red and white vertical stripes on the front, blank back and red sleeves. But it’s the quirk in the details that makes the difference, especially in polo neck with buttons, black with gold stripe in the middle. The two colors also appear on the sides of the shirt and shorts, while meiões completing the uniform are striped in red and white, but horizontally.

The uniform reserve (in the gallery from the photo number 12) , in turn, comes in two shades of dark blue and has some pink in detail on the shoulders and sides. The collar is bald with most blue and edge also rose. The emphasis in this case is the use of modern manufacturing technology to create, at the front, some irregular horizontal bands in different shades of blue. The shorts and meiões are also blue with pink details.

{To purchase shirts and other Umbro soccer products, click here}

In addition to the uniforms of the outfield players were also revealed the PSV goalkeeper shirts. The holder is green with irregular horizontal stripes in fluorescent yellow, while the reservation reverses the colors, with yellow fluorescent predominantly with stripes in green. In all models, both line as goalkeeper, the nape of the region bears the inscription “Eendracht maakt macht” which means “unity is strength”.

In addition to having changed the Nike Umbro the PSV shirts will have another big news soon. As announced in April, Philips, a company that gives its name to the team (Philips Sport Vereniging) will no longer sponsor the club. The 2015-2016 season will therefore be the last in which the team’s uniforms have the electronics brand logo.

Innovative technology promises to transform ‘any object’ in … – Globo.com

Scientists at Columbia University, US, have created a technology to turn any object in a rotating puzzles in the style of magic cube. For the “joke” happens they have a software, plus a scanner and a 3D printer. The difficulty is in finding the perfect cut into complex shapes, such as a rabbit, for example, so that all parts move freely. The result promises “magic squares” even more exciting.

A device that creates 3D objects can overcome traditional printers

The first step to start the game is to read the object with a 3D scanner . With the graphical model on the computer, the program lets the user choose where and how it is cropped, which defines how the parties will run against each other.

What is the use to buy a 3D printer? Have your say on TechTudo Forum.

The software then automatically adjusts the position of the pieces so that they can rotate with minimal collision . To ensure that the puzzle works, it can also change the 3D model as shrinking the ears of a rabbit or changing the angle of the tail of a doll.

After the schema magic cube is ready, the invention takes on parts parts “real” hinges with grooves so that they can be mounted. There just print everything with 3D printers and have fun. . The software license can be purchased from the University and its developers, Timothy Sun and Zheng Changxi
