There is a technology that allows you to drive to drink too much – TeK.sapo

Imagine going out with friends and ends up drinking cups to more and exceed the alcohol limit in the blood permitted by law for safe driving. To avoid dangerous situations, it is in the process of research and development new technology that will allow the car to detect if the driver has alcohol more blood, which automatically lock the driving option.

In an event held last week, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Mark Rosekind, revealed that the technology that is under development since 2008. The agency has partnered with Detroit’s Big Three to create the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety system (DADSS), a non-invasive system that aims to detect, in less than a second when the driver has a blood alcohol level above what is permitted by law.

As explained in the video that follows, two technologies are being developed for the project: the first is a device able to “smell” the breath of the driver and the other is a touch sensor built into the button ignition or the changes that occur through the driver’s finger, your level of blood alcohol.

“There are still a lot of work to do, but the support of Congress and industry helped us achieve important milestones in research and development,” said Mark Rosekind. “DADSS has enormous potential to prevent conduction alcoholic specific groups, such as teen drivers and commercial fleet”, as underlined in a statement.

But not everyone is happy with the development of the service. According to the Detroit News, the American Beverage Institute, an association of restaurateurs, opposes the project. The institute argues that the sensors “will do nothing to keep dangerous drivers off the road.” “Instead, the DADSS will simply cause many responsible people, drinking a glass of wine at dinner, can not connect their cars, “said Sarahh Longwell, one of the responsible group.

Several car companies are involved in the project as the BMW Group, Ford, Jaguar, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. However, this service also soon be arriving for the agency, research and development of the final product will still take another five to eight years.
