The release announcement was made by Larry Page himself, one of the company’s founders, in your Google Plus page. Then it admits that this is a completely different business area of what normally focuses the attention of Google, but justifies the fact that there are more and more people to live and work in cities creates a world of opportunities in this area.
In the post, Google argues that although the technology already today give an important contribution to make life easier for those who live in cities, giving the example of applications that can monitor road traffic, and avoid it. In other areas there are problems to be solved where technology can play a more important role, such as “make more efficient transport systems and lower the cost of life and reduce energy consumption.”
The official also admits the expectation that the new company “can really make a contribution to improving people’s lives, such as Google or Calico X”, two similar initiatives.
Both are also focused on research and development. The first welcomes special projects (and secret) Google the second is more oriented to biology and the development of technologies that can help to use people to live longer and better.
