Tom Wagg discovered a planet a thousand light years from Earth

Teenager discovers planet

Young British, aged 15, makes important discovery.

Two years ago, Tom Wagg, 15, noticed an interesting change in the light of a star:. a planet that was in its orbit

Wagg was only in its third stage of the day at the University of Keele in the UK, when they made the discovery. Now, scientists have confirmed that the youth really seen a new planet to about a thousand light years from Earth.

The young man was using a program that identifies distant planets by monitoring the changes in the light emitted by stars . Two robotic observatories, one in each hemisphere, began to comb fine the millions of existing stars and recorded the data collected. Still, it takes the human eye and patience to detect a planet.

The planet discovered by the young does not have an official name and is now referred to as WASP-142b.
