NASA Partners with Microsoft to use the Hololens technology … – IGN Brazil

NASA is partnering with Microsoft to develop the Sidekick project, a virtual reality device to assist astronauts working outside the Earth.

Two versions of the device, which is based on technology Hololens They will be sent into space along with SpaceX on 28 June. According to NASA, Sidekick can reduce crew training requirements and increase the efficiency of work in space.

One of the operating modes of the Sidekick is “Remote Expert Mode” that allows someone in Earth see what someone sees the crew, via Skype. The operator on the mainland can make notes and comments on the astronaut environment and guide you in your tasks.

Another option is the “Procedure Mode” that “improves standalones procedures with holographic illustrations shown in up objects with which the crew is interacting. “

When the two devices reach the International Space Station, they will be tested in a standalone mode. More devices will still be sent in 2015 to the Remote Expert Mode tests. It is expected that the Sidekick will be used regularly until the end of the year.
