The Amazon got registered a technology that smartphone owners are able to unlock the devices only with the ear.
The patent, granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office ( USPTO, its acronym in English) on June 9, aims to replace digital, code numbers and geometric designs as ways to free up the phone to receive phone calls or to play audio files.
The patent document describes the operation of the technology. To unlock the phone, you will have to approach the side of the face of the phone for the camera to recognize the unique characteristics of his ear. The system is able to differentiate the left ear from the right.
In addition to serving to authenticate the user, the technology can also adjust the audio volume of a telephone conversation, for example, to determine the distance between ear and high device speaker.
The technology is only possible because the ears have specific characteristics to identify their owners, even more precise, for example, than digital of the fingers.
This body allows to recognize their owners with certainty in 99.6% of the time, he pointed to a study presented at the biometrics conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, its acronym in English) in 2010.
The Amazon already has a line of mobile phones. Launched in June last year, the first smartphone company, the Fire Phone, was not, however, well received by consumers.
