Technology needs of 15,000 people. Problem: no training – Daily News – Lisbon

Europe will create in the next five years 900 000 jobs in the area of ​​information technology. Only in Portugal is expected that by 2020, missing 15 000 professionals. The problem is that while most Europeans access the Internet every day, including to resolve issues related to public services or banking, the level of digital competence is very low and companies have increasing difficulty in finding professionals for these areas.

The solution found by the Commission to improve the level of e-skills and promote the digital economy was the eSkills program for Jobs, who, in Portugal, is in place two years ago, with the partnership companies such as PT, IBM, Microsoft or Cisco. “The idea is to address the growing demand for professionals in ICT without response from the labor market,” said Lara Campos Military, IBM’s marketing director and one of the ambassadors of the program in Portugal. The numbers are overwhelming: 90% of companies recruiting requiring skills in the area of ​​information and communication technologies, such as cloud computing. That applicants do not have.
