Drones ‘butterflies’ flying in harmony can revolutionize … – Globo.com

The drones are here to stay and several companies are looking for ways to take advantage of this technology. One example is the eMotion Butterflies, created by German Festo, which brings together a set of small aircraft that are able to navigate indoors without colliding with each other. In addition to the surprising appearance of these mini robots, which are much like butterflies, technology can help in the development of intelligent cars that do not conflict, for example.

To fly in harmony, the “butterflies” have a technology eMotionSphere call, using a set of ten cameras to identify the position of drones up to 160 times per second. These data are then transmitted to a central server, which calculates routes to each of them individually to prevent them from hatch.

Each camera is set to focus on at least two drones and, beyond them, the server can also count on the two infrared LEDs information provided on each aircraft, which serve to identify its orientation.

As for the drones needed to follow some basic principles for its operation, as not weigh much (only 32 grams) and have a high scale (50 cm).

Thus, another advantage of this approach is that the final product is easy and quick to assemble. All required components are contained in the aircraft twist. Wings beat up to twice per second and the maximum speed is up to 2.5 meters per second. The total flight time of each drone is up to 4 minutes and after this period they need 15 minutes to recharge.

Drones that deliver orders in 30 minutes, it will work ? Opine on TechTudo Forum.

The project is a eMotionSphere proof of concept, and there are no plans for it to be marketed. The long-term goal of Festo is to demonstrate that your system can be used to coordinate larger and more specialized drones, which would be used for logistical tasks in industries. The project can also be an inspiration to avoid accidents of various vehicles such as common as car accidents, for example. It would be a revolution for the technology.
