Sony acquires cloud technology service OnLive – IGN Portugal

Sony Computer Entertainment has acquired patents for the technology behind the transmission service OnLive.

The exact terms of the deal were not disclosed, just know that from now , Sony controls a number of assets previously OnLive, including international patents related to the cloud gaming.

The OnLive is a specialized transmission service in gaming on multiple devices. This sale is only one step to transfer all services and products to its eventual closure.

The service will continue in effect until April 30, without charging any subscription renewal since 2 April. The OnLive adds that those who had their subscription renewed since March 28, receive adequate reimbursement.

Sony has not yet discussed their plans for the technology, but this is likely to be used for food your own gaming transmission service, the PlayStation Now. The Japanese company acquired the cloud service Gaikai in 2012.
