Finalists compete for the national award ‘World Cup … – Globo.com

Curitiba receives on Wednesday (8) the end of the Brazilian stage of Imagine Cup 2015, known as the World Cup of Technology. The event is sponsored by Microsoft and aims to reward projects in the Innovation category, Games and Citizenship. Winners must attend the world stage of the competition in the United States in July.

The competition evaluates projects of students from around the country. In previous editions, projects developed in Brazil stood out in the world competition. “We had world champions, second places. Brazil has a super strong legacy, especially the creative characteristic of young people, “says the director of innovation and new technologies of Microsoft Brazil, Richard Keys.

In the Brazilian edition of 2015 were more than three thousand teams participants – each with an average between four and six components. Of these remaining nine finalists – three in each category. The winners will be announced at an event at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR), from 17h.

Since the first edition in 2003, it is estimated that 200 000 Brazilian students have participated in the Imagine Cup. To enter the contest, the minimum age is 16, but there is no maximum limit. The only requirement is to be studying. “We want to present to the students how technology can help them to change the world,” explains the director.

Among the projects that have gone through the Imagine Cup, Microsoft’s director remembers a student project Recife (PE), which aimed to help a friend with hearing loss. “He set up a translation program of sign language and was munidal Imagine Cup champion. He started a company that was supported by our program startups and today this is a mature company, that provides for multiple clients,” said Richard Keys.

Another example of winning project in the world competition is a game developed for Xbox in 2011 by students of Curitiba. The strategy game aimed to control characters that inspire other characters to join the volunteer.

In addition to the opportunity to develop a business, global competition has yet to distribute $ 50 thousand for the winners of each category .
