Technology companies created to encourage women’s program … – Administrators

After the revelation of demographic data from large technology companies in Silicon Valley, like Google, these companies have found something that was already suspected of many: gender inequality is alarming

.

For this, some of these companies, more specifically Facebook, Pinterest and Box are wanting to fix it. Just like Google has taken action to correct, the three companies announced on Wednesday (8), the creation of WEST, Women Entering and Staying on Tech (Women Entering and Staying in Technology, in Portuguese), a program the aim of encouraging women to pursue careers related to technology. The program will connect women who are at the technological branch with young people wishing to enter the industry. Within a year, mentors will support their orientandas individually.

“We believe that by working together and giving more direct support, protection and space for community development, we can create a program of individual guidance of great impact in helping women to build meaningful careers in technology,” says statement released by Facebook.

The program was announced just a few months after the release of the demographics of their employees. 85% of the Facebook posts were held by men. Already on Pinterest, the number was 79%. According to the creators of companhinhas WEST, “while the number of vacancies in the area is expected to reach 1.4 million in 2020, the US Census Bureau found that the participation of women in technology has actually decreased since the 1990s . Companies are looking for new ways to make women become interested in technical roles and remain in them to the extent that they are advancing in their careers, “added the statement.
