Just like Google has taken action to correct, the three companies announced on Wednesday (8), the creation of WEST, Women Entering and Staying on Tech (Women Entering and Staying in Technology, in Portuguese), a program the aim of encouraging women to pursue careers related to technology. The program will connect women who are at the technological branch with young people wishing to enter the industry. Within a year, mentors will support their orientandas individually.
“We believe that by working together and giving more direct support, protection and space for community development, we can create a program of individual guidance of great impact in helping women to build meaningful careers in technology,” says statement released by Facebook.
The program was announced just a few months after the release of the demographics of their employees. 85% of the Facebook posts were held by men. Already on Pinterest, the number was 79%.
