For Gonzaga Luiz Lopes

In line with the current challenges of communication in relation to technology and politics, the French sociologist Dominique Wolton, research director at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) of France, was in Porto Alegre in the month of September for the seminar “20 years of Internationalization and Cooperation”, organized by the Graduate Program in Communication -PUCRS, and produced especially for Notebook Saturday a text about the complex relationships between journalism, technology and democracy, titled “Technology and Democracy: The Responsibility of Journalists and Researchers. ”

Author of over thirty books in the social sciences, including “Praise the General Public”, “Thinking communication,” “Internet, then?” And “Informing is not communicating” (Sulina) , Wolton distinguishes between information and communication over time: “The victory of democracy and technological progress ensured the triumph of information, namely, the supremacy of the message But communication remains the most complicated, ie. the relationship, the bond with others, contact with a difference. In communication, we dream that others resemble ourselves, but it never is.’s why, behind the victory of the information, communication difficulties appear in other words, the relationship and the other’s place in society. Communicate and negotiate with others.’s why almost everyone prefers the information communication and the message to the relationship, “he says, noting that the big break of the XXI century will be put in the foreground this relationship with their difficulties and challenges.

The Thinker urges journalists and researchers to have distance in relation to technology. Take control of this relationship means getting a distance based on the belief that information, knowledge, culture and communication are not only technical and economic issues. These four concepts are, after all, politicians. Should be possible to discuss free and contradictorily about them, that need to be defined primarily by values rather than by economic and technological aspects. Conclusion: is releasing information, culture, communication and knowledge of technicality, ie, distinguishing them from the system performance, we can advance the reflection and ensure true knowledge “

The Notebook Saturday too. features interviews, made by the assistant editor of Art & amp; Calendar, Daniel Smith, with Bob Bruno, the Big Dog and music producer Edu K on the new disc dog, “Ivory Coast”, plus a chat with the philosopher and writer Jéferson Assumção about his new book “The Blue Cow is on a Ninja Life within quotation marks”, a preview of “Elis, the Musical,” which will be on display next week in Porto Alegre and attractions of the weekend . cultural
