Science and Technology will receive EUR 1,100 million of funds … – Business Journal – Portugal

Passos Coelho announced that more than 70% of the researchers who were the contest will have a “substantial financing” in the coming years. A total of 19.5% of research units candidates for European funds will not receive funding.

The Science and the diffusion of technological knowledge in Portugal will absorb more than 1,100 million euros of EU funds under the Portugal 2020, revealed the Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho, stating that, “this European funding cycle that now opens, we will have about double the funds traded in 2007.”

Speaking at the conference “The Future of Europe is Science”, the Champalimaud Foundation, the Prime Minister said it was “crucial” that the programming and the application of funds to focus on achieving results.

At the same conference, Passos Coelho stressed the importance of research and development for the country’s competitiveness. “Competitiveness depends primarily of people, the quality of their training and their employability in the labor market constantly changing,” said the Prime Minister.

Passos Coelho also reported on the evaluation that has been done to hundreds of research units that receive public funding in Portugal. According to the prime minister, over 70% of researchers were the contest will have their units have “substantial funding for the coming years.”

However, 19.5% of the units are candidates for funding , corresponding to 10% of total researchers, will be without money for having one less than the minimum threshold required classification. There will be dozens of research units that have their financiamento- reduced basis, Passos Coelho said.

The prime minister left the conference without paying the Champalimaud Foundation statements to the media.
