Present in its cell technology wins the Nobel Prize in physics – Digital Look

Sometimes scientific research worthy of the Nobel prize seem somewhat detached from reality, but not this year. This time, the award was for physical scientists responsible for the blue LED, this largely screens of smartphones worldwide, besides saving light bulbs that are on the market.

The award was presented to scientists Isamu Akasaki Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura who worked on the project in the 1990s, when there were only red and green LEDs. How light is formed by the blue, red and green shades (remember the RGB), the LED can create the blue color was essential to leverage technology that is ubiquitous today.

To achieve this, a new material has to be created, since the colors are generated when electrons pass through a layer of semiconductor material, each material and generates its own color. Scientists were able to use gallium to create blue.

it does not take much effort to find an application setting of the researchers. You’re probably reading this news or a display that uses LEDs or on the phone or tablet screen, which also uses the technology. Moreover, by consuming very little power, incandescent bulbs probably also gave rise to the LED in your home and office.
