Start-up of robot technology wins the competition at the Web Summit – SIC Notícias

The announcement was made this afternoon by Theresia Gouw, founding partner of Aspect Ventures, and one of the members of the jury, that evaluated the three finalists and who took to the stage with the founder of the Web Summit, the irish Paddy Cosgrave.

over The last two days, 200 ‘start-ups’ (startup companies) battled intensely for the prize, but only three arrived to the competition ‘the pitch’, where you had to make a brief presentation of a company three to five minutes: the Kubo Robot, the SoilTron and the PapayaPods.

The Kubo is a robot education a native of Denmark and proposes to teach programming to children. Began as a project of the Laboratory of Social Technology at the University of the South Denmark with the aim of developing new forms of teaching technology to young children.

The ‘start-up’ of Cyprus, SoilTron, presented itself as a revolutionary technology able to produce electricity unlimited from the ground and that can be integrated with various applications.

The PapayaPods, who was born in Switzerland, is a platform for free targeted to the rental market which can be used by those who have houses to rent or for those looking for a space.

The ‘startup’ winner will receive 100 thousand euros of investment from the venture capital company, public Portugal Ventures.

The winners were chosen by Theresia Gouw, Steve Anderson, founder of Baseline Ventures, and Marcus Segal, a member of the accelerator Y Combinator.

The winner will also benefit from the national and international network of investors, corporations, among others, of the Portugal Ventures in Silicon Valley, on the East Coast of the United States, in Germany and in the United Kingdom.

The start-up portuguesa Codacy was the winner of the ‘pitch’ of the Web Summit 2014.

The Portugal Ventures has also promoted the Venture Summit, the premier conference Web Summit for venture capital, which brought to Lisbon more than 500 participants, investors among the most influential of the major international funds, ‘business angels’ (private investors and individual) of the top and accelerators, in a one-day event and in a room where it was represented more than 100 billion dollars (close to 92 billion euros) of investment capital.

The Web Summit in Lisbon, which started on Monday and comes to an end today, with more than 53,000 participants, of 166 countries, including 15,000 organizations, 7.000 executive officers and 700 investors.

Among the speakers are founders, presidents and executives of major technology companies, as well as important personalities from the areas of sport, fashion and music.
