The minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, said today that the State Budget for 2017 for the area includes an increase in relation to 2016, but "it falls far short of what we all want".
"Portugal since 2008 which had an increase of this magnitude [in the budget for science, technology and higher education]. The budget is very positive, has been recognized by the leaders in student government and leaders, [but] obviously it falls short of what we all want," said Manuel Heitor.
The minister was speaking on the sidelines of the Forum INESC TEC in the autumn, "The Factory of the Future: paths for industry in the sixteenth Century. XXI century?" held today at the Port.
For the ruler, "the numbers are clear" and "there is an increase of the appropriation to the public in the face of the initial endowment of 2016 is 4.5%, which was an increase of the own revenues in the higher education of around 10%".
Confronted with the alert researchers and teachers of higher education to the fact that the Budget of the State for 2017 to be insufficient and continue lower than the budgets set in 2010, the minister responded that "the increases are never enough".

According to the report of the proposal of the State Budget (OE), delivered last Friday in parliament, the total expenditure committed to the science, technology and higher education scheduled for 2017 is 2.385,8 million euros, up 5.8% from 2016.
For the National Union of Higher Education (SNESup), this increase will only serve to cover the expenses with the repayment of the surcharge, and so will put higher education and academic careers in an "extremely serious situation".
In the accounts of the SNESup, the budget earmarked for 2017 represents 21% less compared to 2010.
