COTEC joint investors, startups and spinoffs university to … News Journal

How to combine technology and entrepreneurship, so that the potential of technology national is an added value for companies and, of course, to the economy.

This is the theme of the meeting promoted by COTEC Portugal (Business Association for Innovation, non-profit) that will take place October 12 at the new Cruise Terminal of Port of Leixões, under the heading PITSTOP – Tuning Technology and Entrepreneuship /Tuning Technology, and Entrepreneurship.

The conference will involve the participation of investors, startups and spinoffs in the university. The organization stresses that Steve Markham, professor, North Carolina State University, will launch the initiative with a speech on innovation-based “knowledge, and will present good practices of cooperation between businesses and the scientific community”. The closure will be chaired by the minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

At the conference, which gets underway at 14 hours, will be attended by representatives of the Caixa Capital, Change Partners, ES Ventures, Hovione Capital, Sonae Capital and Galp Energia, among others. The closure is scheduled for 17.40 hours.

For Jorge Portugal, director-general of COTEC Portugal, the pressure on the investment in R&D business can be counteracted. “The technological potential national can and should be better leveraged by companies, especially the minority who have greater investment capacity and a greater influence on the market”. He adds that “the COHiTEC Program provides a showcase of opportunities of application of new technologies developed in the national scientific and technological system, in areas such as biotechnology, life sciences, clean technologies, among others. The proximity between companies and researchers enhances the sources of technological innovation that ensure competitiveness and sustained growth”.

During the conference will be presented the guidelines of the COHiTEC 2017, as well as a showcase of routes of commercialization of technologies developed in this pioneering program, which over 13 years has been encouraging and enabling researchers, in conjunction with the mentors and students of management, for the valorisation of the knowledge produced in Portugal.
