Alibaba adopts AMD to expand cloud services – Computerworld

THE AMD and Alibaba Cloud, a branch of cloud computing of Alibaba Group, have announced a cooperation agreement on the use of technology AMD Radeon Pro GPU, graphics processing, with video cards of high performance. Basically, the Alibaba Cloud you want to use AMD technology to increase its offering of cloud computing services.

The announcement was made during the Alibaba Computing Conference, by the CEO and president of AMD, Lisa Su, and by the president of Alibaba Cloud, Simon Hu.”The partnership between AMD and Alibaba Cloud will bring to our customers the most diversified and with a graphic processing based on the cloud," said Simon Hu. Lisa Su noted the increasing demand for solutions of the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) based on standards that are able to make the cloud services more "immersive and intuitive".

During the conference the Alibaba presented its virtualization products – Alibaba Cloud Single Root Input/Output Virtualization (SR-IOV) – with the AMD Radeon Pro server. In the demonstration, used a Radeon FirePro S7150 x2 GPU, with AMD Multi-user GPU (MxGPU), with server virtualization technology. Also showed a demo of a virtual reality (VR) enabled cards, AMD Radeon VR Ready Premium, with the architecture of the Polaris.
