Portuguese award-winning at the International exhibition of Science and … – business Newspaper (press release)

The project 'Active Bio Control and Elimination of Vespa Velutina', developed by two students, earned them an honorable mention during Mostratec, held from 24 till 28 October, in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. It is the largest Science Fair in Latin America, which this year brought together about 900 projects, of which 650 for basic and secondary education.

This work had already highlighted the 10.Th National festival of Science, sponsored by the Foundation of Youth, in the past month of may. The national project "created an innovative and effective system for the capture and elimination of wasps velutinas, so as to prevent the propagation of the species and control the imbalances they cause to the ecosystem".

"it’s more a recognition for Portugal and for Education in Science in our country," says Ricardo Carvalho, Executive president of Youth Foundation. Also to John Vieira, teacher supervisor of the project was a pride and a rewarding experience by the fact that they allow, also, "contact with teachers from many parts of the world, as well as a huge opportunity to understand the Science that is done in schools of various countries represented."

For Francisca Ribeiro da Costa and Milena Pereira, the feeling of pride was also huge as well as, "an experience of sharing unforgettable with the rest of the students present, this is one of the largest fairs in the world".
