The best technology and science in Europe is five days in Lisbon – Renaissance

Alfred, the robot butler, presents service. From Sunday until 22, a tent of the Commerce Square in Lisbon, the public can become acquainted with five of the 150 projects of technology and innovation that will be presented within the ICT – Innovate, Connect, Transform 2015, Europe’s largest event in this area.

This is a way to “show how technology seeks to improve the lives of the general population”, says Pedro Carneiro, the Foundation’s Vice President for Science and Technology (FCT), Portuguese partner of the event organized by the European Commission.

In addition to Alfred, whose mission is to interact with the elderly, helping to break the isolation, are also robotic guardians, developed by Portuguese researchers, to help children in learning. It’s Emote project.

Another project with Portuguese finger is the Graphene Flagship, which aims to explore the multiple graphene applications (flat sheet of carbon atoms) in the day-to-day, to light tennis racket.

The ICT4Water apply the technology in smart water management, while the Easy IMP bet on tools and platforms for creating customized products intended for mobile device users.

This is the media face of the largest European event technology and innovation for the first time, it takes place outside the country holding the EU presidency (Luxembourg).

Three years ago, the General Directorate for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Commission decided it was time to introduce more competition in this area. Portugal played in the organization with the Netherlands and Denmark.

Seven thousand subscriptions

For Pedro Carneiro, the importance of conducting ICT in Lisbon is huge because it reveals the recognition of the European Union for the work that has been developed in Portugal in recent years, but also provides an opportunity for Portuguese scientists show their work.

The organization received more than seven thousand entries. A quarter of participants are Portuguese and 15% are young people under 30 years.
