Brazilian cities promote National Science Week and … – EBC

The 12th edition of the National Week of Science and Technology begins today (19) and will until the 25th in several cities. This year’s theme is Light, Science and Life and is based on the United Nations decision to proclaim 2015 the International Year of Light. The idea is to highlight the importance of light and optical technologies in everyday life of citizens, as well and in the future and the development of societies.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the week has the support of state and municipal departments, funding agencies, scientific and cultural centers, educational institutions and research, scientific societies, schools, government agencies, technology companies and civil society.

The purpose of the event is to bring science and population Technology promoting science communication activities in accessible language and innovative ways that stimulate curiosity and motivate the discussion of the social implications of science.

According to the coordinator of the National Science Week and Technology, Douglas Hawk, at least 620 cities have signed up to receive activities. The expectation of the government is that the number exceeds a thousand municipalities, exceeding the total for last year:. 905 cities

According to Hawk, more than 25 000 activities have already been entered for the event and it is expected the number will reach 120 thousand or more, and 2 mil accredited institutions. In 2014, 108 000 registered activities and 924 accredited institutions were registered.
