Students put their hands dirty technology in dispute … – Globo.com

For many students, one of the most anticipated activities of the year is the intercourse (or interclass) in order to demonstrate their sports skills. In Toledo University Center, located in Furquim Park in Presidente Prudente, this week is a robotic intercourse, called “Robogame”. In this case, the sport is to wage a battle between robots and catapults, as it comes out winning the one that wins more points. Students of the second term of Information and Production Engineering Systems courses are in the duel.

“Robogame” is in its third edition and the novelty this year is the entrance to the course of Production Engineering in contention . Before, only the course of Information Systems participated. Students Information Systems developed four robots Arduino and Production Engineering four catapults. According to the robotics project coordinator, Raphael Garcia, the battle is a contest of the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age.

Teachers of the two courses form the jury, which will record the dots and define the winner. To score, each team must burst balloons that are scattered across the battlefield, but mainly bladders that form the basis of catapults and also about robots. To burst these balloons, and get more points than the others in the field, the competitor “destroy” his opponent, leaving the enemy team with one member less.

The winning team will be awarded a trophy (made by the students themselves) and medals. In addition, each student won notes during the development of robots and catapults in their respective courses in the disciplines integrated into the project.

The field where there is this dispute is five meters long and was set up in area coexistence of the University Center.

The theory in practice
Raphael Garcia also explains how robots work. “The members of the Information Systems team control their robots by their own mobile phones, using Bluetooth technology. It’s cool they could have that practical application of all the theory learned in the classroom, it expands the line of thought and the ability of students” says Garcia.

One of the students participating in the contest defending team of Information Systems, Rodrigo Lima says that the novelty is adding a lot of knowledge to students. “Even though simple, is something different. In the future, Robots will do many things everyday and have an initial contact with this type of technology arouses our interest to create and launch things involving robots, “says Lima.

But the coordinator of the Production Engineering, Carlos Eduardo Turin, says the education system through dynamic and practical work has become common for the results obtained. “It is a dynamic, is a joke, but always remembering the application of what they learned in the classroom. Make them put their hands dirty makes them feel engineers right now, “points Turin.

The student of Industrial Engineering Maria Eduarda Chrysostom affirms the importance of teamwork. “In addition to learning the application of materials with a lot of theory, like physics and mechanics, can enhance teamwork,” he says.

The event, which began on Monday (26), is free and open to the public. On Tuesday (27), when it ends, the “Robogame” takes place from 20.30, in the living area of Toledo University Center in Presidente Prudente.
