Apple is convicted of copying technology created by university – Digital Look

The Justice of the state of Wisconsin in the United States, told Apple guilty of using a patented technology for a local university without permission. The company may be required to pay nearly $ 1 billion in compensation.

The patent in question, recorded in 1998 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, described a process to improve the efficiency of mobile device processors. The same technology was used by Apple in the production of A7 chips, A8 and A8X, present in iPhones 5s, 6:06 Plus, plus some iPad models.

The court overseeing the case has yet to define exactly the extent of the “damage” caused by Apple and thus calculate the amount that the company should the university. The initial requirement recorded in the records is $ 860 million.

At the same time, Apple faces another process by using technology “stolen” also in the production of A9 and A9X chips (the new generations of the iPhone and iPad). If convicted, the company’s expenses with indemnifications can overcome the mark of $ 1 billion.
