Link between science and technology – Tribuna do Norte – Natal

The Computer Lab Industrial (LII), installed at the Center for Research and Innovation in Information (NPITI) technology, is a group of students and teachers that integrate technological and scientific production of Digital Metropolis Institute, UFRN. With a focus on developing solutions for industrial automation, the LII is currently derived from the initiative, three companies active in local and national market companies – Logique Systems, Manolos, Logapp – plus numerous articles and award-winning projects.

The shares of LII are coordinated by Professor Dr. Luiz Affonso, which tracks undergraduates, masters and doctorate. “The most important thing is that we already have companies in the market that have arisen here. Ie, there is a continuity of work. This is the profile of the laboratory. We developed the technology, but do not forget it is all integrated. The work is reused, “he said.

One of the first products of the group was a management system of industrial information, called Gerinf. From it, other projects were developed. In 2009, a support for alarm management, called BR-AlarmeExpert, won the 4th edition of the Petrobras Technology award. The technology is currently the standard solution used in 20 production facilities, exploration, refining and transportation of oil.

“It started as a research project and went on to succeed. When the technology was actually installed consolidated and turned into a business to support. The patent is divided between UFRN and Petrobras, “said Allan Robson, a PhD student who joined the group. Developed from the BR-alarm, four other solutions are in the same transition: Collector-BR, BR-Tools, BR-TrendExpert and BRPlantExpert.

The area of development is based on three directions: intelligent systems, system reliability and fault detection. To strengthen the work, UFRN and the Ministry of Education shall make available to the project all the necessary support. “We have any type of infrastructure here. Physical space, computers and human material. In addition to exchanging experiences with professionals and alumni of the project, “explains Luiz Affonso.

The production of LII is based on demands. Most of them are suggested by Petrobras itself, lead partner of the University’s industrial. “Petrobras brings demand and we try to develop a project. In Brazil today, who else is funding technology-production business they are, “explains Allan Robson
