Technology to overcome the fear of resonance – The Day Online

– The MRI machine gives fear in many people. Forced to remain motionless, sometimes for prolonged periods, within a tight tunnel, many patients avoid going through the procedure, which ultimately delaying diagnosis. Thinking about it, public and private hospitals currently rely on devices and techniques to make life easier for those with claustrophobia.

A new alternative is a machine of Italian technology, exclusive to resonance legs and arms, which ends arriving in Brazil. Here, only the body part to be examined must be inside the tube, allowing patients to remain comfortably seated. “Many patients do not discover the phobia at the time of resonance and end up not doing the exam. This new machine does not cause the feeling of entrapment, “said Luiz Fernando de Souza, Radiologist Nuclear Medicine Center of Guanabara, which has three of these devices.

Another option for phobic is the resonance of the open field, where the design of the machine ensures that one does not miss the peripheral vision during the procedure, blocking the feeling of claustrophobia. More comprehensive than the end device to the open field generates images at lower than conventional and can not be used in all types of analysis resolution. “Examinations of more advanced skull, abdomen and breast, for example, are not made because it requires a higher image quality,” says Paulo Roberto Valle Bahia, who works at the network + Labs.

In these cases, the solution to combat fear is to sedate the patient, who wakes up shortly after the end of the examination. The technique is offered including in public health in Rio Picture and Hospital Adam Pereira Nunes, in Saracuruna. “Today, there is no reason to stop doing an MRI,” Paulo Roberto guarantees.
