Cetem »core technology center opens in the Holy Spirit … – Diário de Pernambuco (Signature)

The Centre for Mineral Technology (Cetem), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, inaugurates, next Tuesday (26), the regional center of the Holy Spirit, in the city of Cachoeiro to develop technological research in the mineral area, especially in the ornamental stone sector, and provides technical services in the industry.

The new research center will give local support to Cetem that since 2007 develops research activities at the Federal Institute of Holy Spirit, which occurred until last July, when the very center facilities were completed, as revealed to Brazil Agency Monica Borlini Gadioli Castoldi, chief of the new replacement unit Cetem.

The state of Espírito Santo is the largest producer and exporter of ornamental rocks the country. According to the Brazilian Association for Dimension Stones Industry (Abirochas), Brazilian exports reached over $ 1.3 billion last year – 80% out of there. In the first half of 2014, exports of ornamental totaled $ 628.9 million. Domestic production of ornamental totaled 10.5 million tons in 2013, and more than half left capixabas deposits.

She said the Cetem also does research on the application of waste,” which is a problem for the stone sector. ” The studies allow producers, as well as take the waste from the environment, can direct them as raw material for other industries. Waste recovery of minerals rocks is directed primarily to the construction industry, in ceramics, glass and mortar, for example.

In the ornamental stone sector, Cetem works with companies, national and international institutions and the sector as Abirochas, the Brazilian Center Exporters Ornamental Rocks, Northwest Association of Ornamental Stones, the Technological Center of Marble and Granite and Environmental Association Mount Lebanon universities.
