Technology takes Portugal to Mars – business Newspaper (press release)

The landing on Mars this Wednesday is the hand of the Portuguese. The company software and information systems CRITICAL Software, which is headquartered in Coimbra, will provide technological support to the ExoMars Mission of the European Space to the Red Planet. Next Wednesday, the 19th, the probe Schiaparelli lands on Mars, and the european missions go down in History for being the second time that landing on the planet.

Created with the aim of investigating the possibility of life on Mars, the ExoMars was developed through a partnership between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Roscosmos. To complement the research, the Portuguese company CRITICAL Software was chosen to participate in the implementation of the control systems on board the satellite, in order to ensure their functioning without failures in any circumstances.

The Mission of the European Space and the CRITICAL Software working together since 2013, due to know-how, and technological skills proven in the area of the space industry on the part of the company headquartered in Coimbra.

last Sunday (16), the probe european Schiaparelli, who weighs almost 600 kg, had already been in the news for having separated from the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), its main component. This was the first sign that the descent to Mars was running as planned, meeting the timetable set out in the first for the mission and avoiding crashing into the Red Planet.

In 2020 is planned a new mission with a the rover on the surface, that is able to perform perforations in the soil.
