Evil would give time to fetch a cup of coffee and voila (!), there would be a full analysis of the soil, in 30 seconds, with data on the characteristics and fertility of the earth, fundamental for a good productivity. Is that it promises a new technology, created by Embrapa in partnership with the private sector. The system, which was called SpecSolo, uses sensors that pick up the vibration of the molecules in the soil sample and crosses this information with a huge online database to get the result.
Today, according to the developers, this entire process can take days, and generate waste which pollute the environment. "The solution is one of the greatest innovations in the analysis of soils of the past five decades in Brazil," says the chief-general of Embrapa Soils, Daniel Vidal Pérez.
The project also has an expert system to generate recommendations for fertilizing and liming according to the main manuals available in the country. The technology caters to different audiences, such as labs, cooperative societies, sugar mills and alcohol, bodies of research and rural extension companies in precision agriculture, and consultants.
