cutting-edge Technology in the area of automation and robotics from Phoenix Contact now has to be at the disposal of the students of the Higher Institute of Engineering of the University of Algarve.
The laboratory Edunet, resulting from a partnership between the multinational company of German origin, and the academy of the algarve, was opened this Wednesday and will allow students and teachers to have access to a technology that is used by companies around the world.
The tools that were now available to the members of this unit, located on the Campus of Penha, in Faro, are described by the vice-rector of UAlg, in a humorous way and “a language primitive”, as “a hammer”. “With him, we will teach the students from stone (laughs).”
The members of the academy will have access to educational kits, comprised of hardware and software, which you can explore in a pedagogic. But, eventually, it may also be produced knowledge, transferable to the fabric of business.
“The great aim of this type of partnerships is to bring together the companies of the university. In the case of Phoenix Contact, the company puts technology at UAlg that will be used in teaching, allowing in this way, training technicians more well prepared in these areas”.
This new laboratory will be used more and more by department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, but “it is cross-sectional, so that may also be used by the course in Mechanical Engineering”.
on the other hand, can be a differentiator, in time to attract students to the UAlg. In the area of technologies, employability is not a problem, quite to the contrary: “there is increasing difficulty in recruiting students for this industry.” Thus, the presence of cutting-edge technology, used by many large companies around the world, can weigh in the decision of a young man who is to go on to Higher Education.
Up because the Phoenix Contact is a corporation with a lot of history and a strong presence in the Portuguese market and the algarve. The company was born in Germany in 1923, and is dedicated since then to the development, production and distribution of electrical and electronic equipment. It is present in 55 countries, among which Portugal, where it was installed in a subsidiary company in 2008.
its technology is used by many companies in the region, among which the Waters of the Algarve, Hubel, Rolear and Cimpor.
the approach to The business fabric of the Algarve is, moreover, a goal assumed by Michel Baptiste, director general of the multinational in Portugal.
“what we intend through the Academy Edunet is a closer relationship between the local enterprise and the academy. On the other hand, we want to give the opportunity for teachers to have access to cutting edge technology, in this case our brand, which is innovative on a world scale,” he summarized.
“the Other goal is, through these laboratories, to develop innovative solutions that are required by the national business fabric,” added the general director of Phoenix Contact. The laboratory Edunet serves, “in the background, to promote a sharing of knowledge”. The part of Phoenix Contact there is also the perspective that can help to affirm the brand in the Algarve.
“This is a bet for the long term. We want this technology to be known, disseminated and eventually used in the professional activity. On the other hand, is a way of maintaining a presence here in the region and the proximity to the business fabric of the Algarve,” concluded Michel Baptiste.
