Film “Nerve” addresses dangers of technology, the virtual world and … – Tecmundo

On Thursday, 25, the Paris Films launches in Brazil the film “Nerve – A game without rules.” Starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco

The basic premise of the film is Nerve of the virtual game, you want to take the proposal of “Truth or Dare” to the extreme, where you can only accept challenges.

in this game, young people can decide whether they want to be players or spectators. Who chooses to play, you must meet certain challenges that are voted by the observers. Every gain challenge, the player receives a sum of money in your bank account.

It turns out that the game has some rules and the game may not be as quiet as many imagine. Moreover, it is important to note that everyone who uses the Nerve are forbidden to comment on the game with people who are out of the game – especially the police -. And there are penalties for those who disobey this rule

the film’s plot deals with the involvement of young people in similar little games, where everything seems just a joke, but it takes situations to the ceiling to show the dangers of the virtual world. In this article, let’s talk a bit of technologies discussed in the film and how it has connection with our reality.

A game that may actually exist

How the game works? The film does not give details on the Nerve technology, but of course it is not difficult to identify the concepts for the operation of the game. The game has two ends: the challenges (for players) and streams (for observers)

Who’s player needs a mobile phone to be able to access the main interface.. Although we can not see details of Nerve system, gives to understand that the game uses the phone’s camera (to capture videos of the challenges in real time), the cellular network with Internet access (to send data) and GPS (to identify the position of each player).

The concept seems familiar? Well, Nerve is a game that uses Augmented Reality to bring players to a new reality, that which you already know in Pokémon Go. The difference here is that you do not interact much with the screen, but only accepts challenges and is streamings, like a real-life gameplay transmitted to Twitch.

Who’s observer uses another interface, in which you can not send videos but just watch the streams available. Nevertheless, the spectators have comments and voting systems, letting you decide the tasks of the players. The interaction for this group can be made via phone or computer.

Nerve mixture streaming and Augmented Reality, like a gameplay real-life

How is all this connected? As the film explains, the Nerve game is not installed on a server, so that it propagates via P2P (peer to peer) or perhaps via Magnet Link. It is the same concept of the old music sharing, in which each user is a server and also a client.

The dangers of gambling

Nerve is a game which is rather simple. Basically, players need to perform only challenges – how to kiss a stranger or try an expensive dress in a designer store – and get good money in return. It is tempting and it is no coincidence that many young topam not join in the fun.

The script for the film insists on different types of challenges, linking several players who end up changing each other’s evidence. This interaction proves to be quite interesting, especially since observers is behind all decisions

Acontece the game can take exaggerated proportions. Challenges may involve illegal actions, violence and even get to situations where players put their lives at risk. There are exactly parallel situations in similar games in the real world, but the film debate precisely the oversight issues, innocence and excitement of those involved in the games.

It is interesting to note that, as we have similar cases in the real world the Nerve game creates a relationship between stars (players) and fans (observers). However, the big difference here is that there are fans who make decisions to corner some famous, if only to see someone else’s misfortune or simply for their idol get ahead.

Anonymity makes its victims

Of course, with all these arguments in the script, the film goes further and deals with the online community. Speaking of our reality, we know that the virtual world is crazy, something even more pronounced on sites that do not require any type of document proving the identity of Internet users, that is, we are talking here of almost all the same web.

Nerve shows the danger of anonymity, as viewers can decide the challenges players

Anyone can create a account (or dozens of them) in social networks, services, games. And everything is free. Taking shops and sites that deal with finance, the only type of record that most sites use is the IP address, which usually only identifies the location of an access, but not necessarily the person who is behind the machine.

you may know several cases of celebrities who did not know how to deal with fame, with pressure, with nasty comments with eavesdroppers. The lives of those who decide to live on the web is turned upside down and anonymity only ends up making things worse. Bullying has no limits in the virtual world and this can lead to tragic consequences.

” Nerve – A game without rules “, this whole question of anonymity shown even worse, since the viewers can decide the challenges of the players. The film shows how the intrigues, name-calling or a simple click of a button can cause a person to dangerous situations.

In this latent debate, it is clear that each player accepted part of the game for free will (or it would be a society of pressure?), but it is also noted that each observer is also paying for a show that can have a very unexpected result. After all, until pontoo anonymity is beneficial? Are we hostages of new technologies? To what extent you can reach?
