Understand why the market should adopt the technology of Building … – Administrators

The BIM (Building Information Modeling) arrived in Brazil just over ten years. That said, we can now consider the first reason to adopt it, but we see that the market, despite having numerous information sources, is still showing a matter of ignorance or maybe it’s that old idea of ”we know what it is, but we do not think it’s time to change and let’s hope that change comes first from the other. “

For those who have not yet had any contact with the acronym that dominate the construction sector in the world, BIM or “Modeling of Information Construction” is a technology aimed at building that allows you to create a virtual model building before building it, considering all its disciplines: architecture, structure, installations and analysis. We are not talking only of a computer model, but an intelligent and parametric model, which combines information from the construction elements and can be drawn at any time or used for operating purposes / maintenance of the building.

The virtual building, to be a faithful model of the building, allows you to do the compatibility of projects avoiding errors and waste in building and facilitating even the operation of the site. Finally, the building model to the end of the work becomes the “as-built” with great value for the operator, ie, it is an efficient technology to increase productivity in the construction sector.

We have heard today, after ten years of technology have landed in Brazil, various excuses by companies in the construction sector type: “How much will it cost? BIM is too expensive! “” We do not need that “,” I have not asked anything in BIM, I’ll wait a bit, “etc. Much has been discussed at conferences and seminars on the challenge of BIM implementation in Brazil, but it’s time to face the challenge and go for training and work to begin to reap the rewards before they get left behind.

In the beginning, we saw apologize for the cost of technology, hand qualification of work, lack of libraries and standards appropriate to our reality, beyond the difficulties with interoperability between tools. Today, the market has already articulated and had a major breakthrough in terms of labor skills, especially by young people.

Some supply industries of construction have created their libraries, Providence confirming their importance and pushes other companies following the same chain. The cost of the technology, in turn, should be seen as an investment that will bring more productivity, if used correctly. As for Brazilian standards there are already major moves by the government and professional associations, such as ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), ASBEA (Brazilian Association of Architecture Firms), Brazilian Army, and others who are developing standards to meet the our standard of BIM. Some government agencies have ventured to ask BIM projects requiring a readjustment of designers. So we still have excuses for not deploying BIM by some sectors?

In the late 80′s, was the transition of projects made in clipboard with all the drawing tools that attended to the CAD (Computer Aided Design). And it was not easy at the time. There was a lot of resistance and the same excuses today, almost 30 years later:. High investment, lack of manpower and lack of Brazilian design patterns

In the midst of so many excuses, however, there are many reasons to adopt BIM for the benefits it brings to the business and not only by the pressure situation to change only by demand, without being aware of the benefits. The whole construction chain benefits from the technology, which results in reaching new business, improvement of the design and construction process, efficient coordination and compatibility, reduced waste in the work and positive ROI. No more excuses, because who does not adapt will not survive in this competitive market.
