Technology can track people even in blurred images – Globo.com

Fujitsu presented on Friday (6) the technology to track people from low-resolution images or have been blurred to protect the privacy of individuals. The company says that the information obtained can map the movement of crowds, assisting in the organization of events with many pedestrians, and help the shop owner to adjust the layout of the products, for example.

The new program one is able to identify the shape of the body and the clothing color, even though details are not available or if people are very close to each other.

Gathering information from a set of cameras, the system also can determine when is “seeing” the same person who has been to another image. Fujitsu’s own tests indoors indicate that it was possible to identify 80% of individuals, but no other details. The company noted that this number depends on the position of the cameras and the willingness of people in the shooting.

For Fujitsu, the technology can increase people’s privacy. This is because is no longer necessary to use high-resolution cameras to perform motion analysis. So far, this type of analysis was only possible with the use of detailed pictures that software distinguish people by face recognition.

According to a report from IDG News Service, Fujitsu plans to commercialize the technology in March 2016. The company, however, says only that intends to conduct more tests later this year.
