Technology from NEC allows you to identify the direction of the human eye – the Magazine BIT, computers for all.

This new technology uses the detection spot of the facial features to accurately identify features within and around the eye, as for example the pupil and the corners of the eye without the need for specialized equipment and with a measurement error of less than 5 degrees from the left, right, top or bottom.

according To the NEC, this form of remote sensing is able to give response even with low-resolution images, and change brightness, allowing to detect the line of sight of individuals apart up to 10 metres of the camera, making it suitable, for example, to detect automatically the products that arouse the attention of consumers in the stores.

"based on this technology, the NEC can assess the line-of-sight of pedestrians and contribute to optimize the placement of ads in public spaces," he said, in a statement, Akio Yamada, General Director, Data Science Research Laboratories, NEC Corporation. "In addition, this technology can also contribute to the security of the communities, through the monitoring of the behavior of the suspects, as well as helping the tenants to find out more about which products attract more attention of the customers."
