I’m teaching a training course in social technologies for young people and, in the conversations we have in class, is very clear duality of technology.
When I talk about duality, I refer to the fact that technology has two sides: one positive and one negative; a scientific and other social; a material and other immaterial; and face one another at a distance and so on.
The internet, social media, mobile devices, games and many other technologies are good examples.
The internet at the same time allowing us access to a world full of news, information, knowledge, entertainment, ie, provides in study, work, play, etc. relationships from anywhere, with anyone, anytime, also provides various crimes. Bandits and bad guys take advantage of the facilities, access, innocence or neglect of people to steal, extort, practice bullying, entice minors etc.
The same thing happens with social networks, which put us in touch with so many people, but at the same time, make us slaves, it is necessary to “like” what your friends post, share, be alert all day or rather, all the time, not “lose” anything, not be excluded. You need to participate in the Facebook groups, LinkedIn, tanning pages, be on Whatsapp, Viber on, Skype, in Wechat in Instagram etc.
Mobile devices are a panacea in this context as they allow all this to be done from anywhere, anytime, in the palm of your hand. On the other hand, you are always “on air”, available because no one wants more “drop” … turn off the gadget. People remain stuck in it, even when you’re carrying!
It is necessary that parents, educators, psychologists, educators, business, government and civil society to observe more closely this phenomenon and see how it has affected positively and negatively people.
At home, you need rules so that there is time for everything: to make school lessons, enjoy the family, participate in decisions and housework etc. And that goes for parents and children!
At school, there needs to be greater use of these technologies for teacher and student to understand and relate better, and, of course, to create new forms and study tours facilitated by technologies, including mobile.
This can improve the interaction of students, their interest by schools and studies, their results, your health and even your psyche.
At work, you must understand that there is time for everything and everything can have a new side. Instead of being considered a villain in productivity, the Internet, mobile devices, games etc. can be allies of organizations, projects, professionals and promote greater interaction and communication between people, departments, customers, partners, etc ..
A mobile device such as a smartphone or a tablet may be digital magnifiers, virtual assistants, screen readers, GPS, media converters (audio, video, image etc.), means of communication, data transmission, information , documents and knowledge.
