Oscar Niemeyer house in Rio is scanned with 3D technology – Globo.com

One of the most important works of architect Oscar Niemeyer is being scanned with 3D technology. Casa das Canoas will be part of a virtual library that will have in the collection 500 worth of world architecture, as shown by the RJTV.

The house in Canoas Road in São Conrado, stuck in the Tijuca Forest, the home of one of the most famous architects in the world, in the 50s, before moving to Brasilia. There, Oscar Niemeyer met family and friends, as former President Juscelino Kubschtek. Was in the house that the architect celebrated the centennial of life.

The construction of 1952 tumbled by the Historical and Cultural Heritage, will undergo a comprehensive reform throughout the year 2015 and will be open to visitors, in early 2016.

The intervention require much care. All the reform was implemented following what was designed by the architect. The requirement is for complete preservation of original designs. And to meet this architectural memory, the whole house was scanned.

“This work is important, first, because it serves to support restoration activities, which confirms in detail, in three dimensions, each information home. It will also be used for educational activities, whether for specialized architectural studies and design but also for young people, to show the importance of preserving the cultural heritage, “says Carlos Ricardo Niemeyer, architect and great-grandson superintendent of the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation.

In addition to all the built part, the scanner process includes the stones, the dense vegetation, the pool and the sculptures of the mining artist Alfredo Ceschiatti, that adorn the garden.

The work was done by professionals at the University of Ferrara in Italy, and funded by the American NGO Cyark.

With the same 3D technology, Cyark is cataloging and storing data 500 cultural heritage sites such as the pyramids of Egypt , the square of Venice and the Pelourinho.

Carlos Ricardo Niemeyer wants to turn the place into a museum, a preservation memory space and great-grandfather’s work. “In addition to meet and visit an example of the work of Niemeyer, they will also be able to find films about life, multimedia installations and other aspects of his work.”
