Technology companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter will begin to become “invisible” web images and videos containing child pornography. The database that will be used by companies has “fingerprints” featuring content with child abuse.
Created by the British charity called the Internet Watch Foundation, the database uses “intelligence to seek child abuse content” and prevent them from being displayed in the browser, according to the Telegraph.
Google, Microsoft and Mozilla will investigate the possibility of applying the technology directly in browsers, respectively, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox, while social networks should incorporate the feature in their sites. In the Google search tool, the technology will be used in 40 languages.
“This is an important measure because each image or video contains a real child being sexually abused and each time someone sees that content the child becomes a victim again, “said Susie Hargreave, CEO of the Internet Watch Foundation.
The detection system and access lock is similar to that already use Dropbox to find copyrighted content.
The measures against the proliferation of child pornography were announced by David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the global forum “We Protect Children Online”, “We protect children on the Internet” in free translation. The event was attended by representatives from 50 countries and 23 technology companies.
