The technology will devastate the middle class, says Stephen Hawking – Tecmundo

there are a few those who think that the "end times" is coming, with events such as the Brexit, the United Kingdom, and of the election of Donald Trump in the us. Stephen Hawking, no less than the greatest physicist of today, goes further: for him, a good part of the technology industry will help further destroy our society.

In an article opinion piece published by the website The Guardian, which commented on their concerns about how this is the period most dangerous to have ever lived on our planet, Hawking explains that the situation is anything but comforting to the middle class in the world. The reason? A mixture of automation and the growing artificial intelligence.

The growth of artificial intelligence will probably extend this destruction of jobs deeply into the middle classes

"The automation of factories has already wiped out jobs in traditional manufacturing.", he began. "The growth of artificial intelligence will probably extend this destruction of jobs deeply into the middle classes, with only the roles more careful, creative and supervisory left."

Hawking still continues, stating that, as a result, we will see an increase in the economic differences around the world, accelerating something that is already happening. And he warns: "The Internet and the platforms that it makes it possible to allow very small batches of individuals to make enormous profits while employing very few people. This is inevitable, this is progress, but it is also socially destructive."
