Brazil wants to standardise Portuguese technology of electric mobility – Express

The technology the Portuguese gave this week a huge step in the area of electric mobility. Is that one of the main technological institutions brazilian just hire the platform that the Portuguese centre for engineering CEiiA created to monitor the electric vehicles that are connected, allowing you to share a fleet of electric cars for multiple users.

More: this platform can make available various information about the circulation of electric vehicles and the charging of their batteries – whether cars, motorcycles or bicycles – in all perimeters geographic. Does this to the universes as small as the streets of a city. But it can also provide the same type of information for a wider area such as a region, a country, or even to monitor the electric mobility in different countries.

This Portuguese technology was introduced in Brazil by the Technology Park of Itaipu (PTI), located in the State of Paraná, near the city of Foz do Iguaçu. The presentation of this platform was attended by the Deputy secretary of State and of the Environment, José Mendes, showing the importance the british Government attaches to the internationalization of this project.

CEiiA installed in the zone of the Itaipu dam

The “headquarters” of the brazilian this technology platform of the CEiiA works in one of the ancient buildings, which, from 1973, contained the workers who built the gigantic Itaipu dam on the Paraná river, located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. That is where is now installed the drive CEiiA that manages this project.

To that end, the Technology Park of Itaipu (PTI) reaproveitou some of the houses built for albergarem the 40 thousand people who worked on the construction of the great dam shared by Brazil and Paraguay.

In one of the rooms of the PTI, the director of innovation, CEiiA, João Caetano, explained to the Express what is the technology platform now used in Brazil. On four large screens set in a wall, showed as if it monitors the system for intelligent sharing of electric vehicles.

this is a plataforrma that goes far beyond the mere location of the electric vehicles which circulate in the vicinity of the PTI within the area of the Itaipu dam. Also is not only to extract detailed information about each electric vehicle in circulation. It is not only which is the charge level of the batteries and the tracks made by the car shared. In the limit, this platform will allow to quantify the ecological footprint of the whole analyzed area, stating with accuracy the amount of polluting emissions that were saved with the electric mobility.

Quantify the ecological footprint

“Quantify the totality of the ecological footprint of a city, obtained by a given system of electric mobility”, explains João Caetano. To the director of innovation, CEiiA, “the factor most interesting of the adoption of this platform in the zone of the Itaipu dam, is that here all the electric energy is completely free of carbon emissions, because it is exclusively produced by hydroelectric generation”.

“our clever platform sharing of electric vehicles of new generation, the car-sharing services – quantify with great accuracy the ecological footprint of the system of electric mobility, and at Itaipu can even show the character fully quality of the energy used by electric vehicles connected to our system”, says João Caetano.

See the traffic of Barcelona from Itaipu

On the same screens, in the Museum, are displayed the electric scooters that circulate through the streets of Barcelona, linked to the same platform from the beginning of 2016. The same management model of electric scooters will be extended to Lisbon, Madrid and Rome, In Cascais, the MobiCascais includes a component of “bike sharing” and a program of integration of smart mobility.

For the rest, the development of this platform of sustainable mobility already has in Brazil, with approximately 120 thousand hours of engineering work, valued at 6 million euros. This engineering work led by the Portuguese part in the Program, Mob-i, which results from a collaboration between the Central of Itaipu and the CEiiA, to develop initiatives of smart mobility, using the platform mobi.me.

João Caetano explains that the system “car sharing” of electric released this week is the new phase of the project started in Brazil with the partnership with Itaipu in December 2013. For this service, “car sharing” are allocated to 32 vehicles model Renault Twizy and 20 Renault Zoe.

Connect the cars from the smartphone

at The level of the technical specifications, the CEiiA incorporated in these vehicles, the so-called “Mobility Device Connector” (MDC) which allows to make the connection and the real-time control of the vehicles to the platform mobi.me.

To exemplify its functioning, uses a mobile application both in the Android environment, both in iOS – which makes the booking of the vehicle you want, available in any of the streets surrounding the area of the Itaipu dam. The application viewed on a smartphone can control the use of the vehicle, and integrating it in the CEiiA designates as the “eco-system of mobility of the dam”.

Mechanism for decarbonising cities

The platform mobi.me” manages the whole system of smart sharing of vehicles, by monitoring, in real time, the ecological footprint of mobility” location. “This system creates the basis to adopt an efficient mechanism of descabonização of cities through the intelligent mobility of the vehicles electrical of new generation”, explains João Caetano.

But the project is more ambitious. The integration in the electricity sector in the brazilian of the information provided by the platform makes it possible to assign a footprint to each use of a given vehicle. Thus, it will be possible to create mechanisms for transaction credits that are sustainable, that will foster the behaviors of vehicles, more favourable from ecological point of view, reducing the overall costs of the mobility.

In the first phase, this project monitors the use of the fleet of electric vehicles of the Itaipu dam – a model of sharing corporate electric vehicle , allowing its gradual optimization, within a logic of environmental sustainability. At the same time, it will function as a test lab for other solutions to develop for the “mobi.me”.

But the next step will be to change the paradigm of management of fleets of institutions and large business groups. This will imply the increase of the number of charging points monitorizáveis by the intelligent management of “mobi.me”.
