FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

the First word in this case does not indicate that this is the ‘first’ Lego league. It is a term abbreviation For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology in translation into Portuguese).

The challenge suggests that participants have contact with the world of science and a fun way technology, taking as its starting point the development and programming of a robot made entirely of Lego pieces. On a carpet with obstacles, the machine must fulfill series of missions in a time of two minutes and a half. But the tournament goes beyond robotics and also involves scientific research. Every season, it proposes a different theme, and teams must then analyze regional problems related to this subject in particular to present an innovative solution deploying the result on the day.

In 2016, the competition has trash theme. And thinking about social responsibility, the team of Sao Caetano found opportunity to benefit from an assistance entity of the city with the collection and separation of recyclable material. “Our idea is to take advantage of the disposal that can be recycled to generate income that helps institutions. We contacted residents and condominiums explaining the project. We speak of the importance of selective collection and ask that separated this garbage for donation, “said the student Giovana Novi, 14.

The council team has become a reference in the championship. In 2014, they were champions of the national stage and, last year, secured second place. The 2015 season marked the sixth place in the international contest.

Giovani Razzante, 15, says that the best part of the tournament is the sense of cooperation between the teams. “The competition cherishes the fundamental values, such as community and mutual gain. It may be that your robot is not the best or your search, but if you’re only going to win and do not see the competition as a large gathering of friends, surely the jury will not give you a chance. “
