Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation celebrates the role of primary and secondary schools

The National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT) reached the milestone of one thousand participating municipalities throughout Brazil in 2015. For the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the result proves the success of science popularization of shares of the country.

“This number of thousand municipalities is important to the history of the dissemination of science, technology and innovation (ST & amp; I) in Brazil. We seen a big growth SNCT precisely in small municipalities, with accession of municipalities, municipal departments and a very large role in elementary and high schools, “says the national coordinator of SNCT, Douglas Hawk, director of the Department of Popularization and Dissemination of Science and Technology of MCTI.

The Secretary of Science and Technology for Social Inclusion (Secis / MCTI), Edward Madureira Brazil, points out that this achievement covers a fifth of municipalities Brazilians. “This number represents 20% of the municipalities of the country and shows the importance of the political decision to create a secretariat to deal with such an important issue,” he says.

In his view, the effort MCTI with the creation of Secis institutionalized a way to popularize science throughout Brazil. “In these thousand municipalities we already have, regularly, a week of science and technology, whether in schools, universities, through municipal and this motivates a series of new activities, “he said.

For the vice president of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC), Ildeu Moreira, as well as being an important event for the country, the SNCT stimulates the creation of several local initiatives and actions. “The week has stimulated the creation of science centers and museums in various regions and has made the states of personnel, municipalities and science and technology departments to articulate in activities throughout the year,” he said.
