NASA invents Chip Wi-Fi that does not require battery – IGN Portugal

The Popular Science reports that NASA is to develop a chip capable of eradicating with daily shipments of smartphones.

According to the website, the chip was created by Adrian Tang NASA and MC Frank Chang at the University of California, and requires 100 times less energy than the receivers used in mobile phones today. The chip increases its duration to reflect wi-fi signals a router, instead of sending the signal itself. The router does nearly all the work, allowing the chip requires very little power.

The most impressive is that the wi-fi speed is not affected significantly by the chip, with researchers to get reach speeds 40MB / s using the new technology.

NASA and the University of California plan to take the chip for the commercial market, meaning that we can count on the technology soon on mobile devices.
