Chinese mission takes Portuguese technology for space – Renaissance

The next Chinese space mission will take on board domestic technology. Chinese microsatellite integrate a platform developed by Portuguese company Tekever. The technology allows communication in real time, to the earth.

“The Tekever developed a platform called Gamalink. In practice, is a communications platform for satellites based on a technology called ‘software defined radio’ and serving to support multiple types of communications in space, particularly between satellites and satellites to Earth, “said Ricardo Mendes, CEO of Tekever.

This is to implement a simple idea:. take the space technology we use every day on Earth

“The goal is to try to create as close to a internet in space; that satellites communicate with each other in a simple, transparent way for those who are using “describes the administrator.

The Gamalink underwent various tests and will now be used in space by integrating a Chinese mission , “which aims to make various kinds of missions,” including “gathering information on the polar ice caps and on the movement of ships and planes along the poles”, and “make the trial of the technology,” states Ricardo Mendes.

Launched in 2009, the Tekever Space has invested 10 million euros in this space odyssey, but not to stay here. “The aim is to position itself as one of the world’s leading providers of communications systems for satellites” .

“We are already working with other organizations at European level and Brazilian entities. We hope, over the coming years, participating in many more missions,” said Ricardo Mendes.

To already, the mission is Chinese, which goes into space in September.
