Understand how technology helps in the development of prostheses – Globo.com

The new technologies are helping in the development of prostheses and cheaper cost, thus making them accessible to a larger number of people. The use of prostheses helps improve the quality of life of patients with shoulder problems, hip and knee, for example – three of the joints more for wear, as explained orthopedic doctors André Wever and Lawrence Alexander, president of the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Wellness Wednesday (26).

The orthopedist André Wever explained the difference between bracing, which is an external device and helps to a member function as an insole. Have the prostheses replace the function of a limb or joint, and can be external or internal to the body. For children, the dentures need to be replaced as the body grows.

One of the advances in this area is the use of 3D printers with which one can reconstruct the body parts. To produce a prosthesis by using the 3D printer is necessary, first, scanning the body part to be played.

There is, however, a restriction to the use of prostheses. People with osteopenia or osteoporosis, for example, is the loss of bone mass can be prevented using prostheses.
