Technology Samsung exchange by conventional mouse movements … – Tecnoblog (Blog)

The Samsung presented on Tuesday (25), the second generation of EYECAN +, a device that functions as a “mouse virtualized”, allowing the user to perform a number of basic tasks on the computer using only the movement of your eyes .

This is not another one of those technologies that are intended only to replace conventional mice and keyboards. The technology was created for a purpose far more noble:. Facilitate interaction of people suffering from serious mobility restrictions

The new EYECAN + proves very practical. The user does not need to use special glasses or additional accessories. The device is a box that resembles the Kinect, so all you need to do is place it just below the monitor.

In turn, the user need only be between 60 to 70 inches of EYECAN +. The device does not require the person to take a specific position (sitting, for example), just be ahead of the equipment.

As the position of the EYECAN + is flexible, the user will have to make an adjustment on first use to make it work properly. You can set various parameters such as the sensitivity of detection of eye movements.

When everything is working, the user will see on the screen a floating menu that can be displayed in a rectangular or circular shape. This menu overlaps the current windows and allows the person to perform 18 different commands:. Copy, paste, zoom, scroll the screen and so on

The learning time is very short: the user should basically look for the desired command and flash. EYECAN + detect the movement and perform the corresponding task right away.

According to Samsung, the technology is the result of a volunteer effort of some of its engineers, which is why the company does not intend to convert the EYECAN + in a commercial product.

The company will manufacture a certain amount of device units to donate it to charity and will soon become the “open” technology. Thus, organizations and businesses worldwide can produce EYECAN + without paying licensing.
