Hackathon Globe: BBB’s home opens doors for 33h pure … – Globo.com

On Saturday morning (5) starts the Hackathon Globe , which takes place within the most watched house of Brazil. The BBB’s mansion welcomes today summoned 40 of the more than 1800 subscribers in the competition. Under the cloudy weather of Rio de Janeiro, this geek class will participate during 33 hours of unprecedented activity on the premises: developing software solutions for TV. Among those selected are from several Brazilian states and the Federal District.

The house, prepared especially for the event, account with three cameras that will monitor day and night to welcome the squad, division of the groups, start and end of the work from the 9 am.

What is hackathon

Globo TV has adopted the hackathon format to discover new ideas and people who can change the way they produce and watch TV with technology. In short, means hackathon programming marathon. A combination of “hack” (program / hacking) and “Marathon” (Marathon), in English. Choosing the BBB’s house was the brainchild of the station technology team and promises surprises.

“The word of the hackathon is diversity,” says Daniel Monteiro, Research and Development Manager of TV globe. The expert says that people of all ages and qualified were invited. Also according to Monteiro, was a difficult task to choose 40 among 1800 applicants.

Competition in the House of BBB

Divided into eight groups, developers, developers, designers, hardware and software experts, will face a contest for the best design. The main prize for the first place, is entitled to three days within the MIT Media Lab, located in Boston, USA. The MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) is an institute that excels in science, engineering and technology.

In addition to organize and join forces, knowledge and affinity with strangers in record time participants will have to figure out how technology can change the way they produce and consume content. For this, they will have to disposal all kind of equipment and software available within the TV Globo. The IBM will be present and the BlueMix, a cloud solution that enables developers to build, deploy and manage online applications more quickly and easily.

In the garden’s most famous house of Brazil, rather than bells celebrations of the BBB will be available equipment and application software, robotics, electronics, internet of things, mobile features, web, database data, social networking, multimedia, virtual and augmented reality, as well as infrared cameras that detect movements – working with a fair of products. The goal is to turn all this into entertainment for the viewer and technology to the station.

From Sunday afternoon, the panel of judges, made up of TV Globo experts, the companies of Grupo Globo and the labor market, will see the presentation of the work and will decide the finalists.

BBB House wins reform

To receive the 40 geeks, home of Big Brother Brazil was adapted. For the long journey of over 30 hours, some environments will be with a different look. The facility, one of the bedrooms and the traditional living room will be prepared with computers, machines and accessories.

The confessional loses the tension of eliminations and gives way to a room games with video game consoles. The leader of the room, however, remains with the atmosphere of “quiet zone” for times of tiredness and relaxation. The kitchen continues to give that power and operate as a fast food space and coffee break to feed all the teams involved in this project.
